Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Veteran Servies seeks a part-time IT Engineer. This part‑time role will provide essential IT support for Headquarters and Department of Veteran Services (DVS) locations, including end‑user assistance, network support, and application troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications
• Serve as the first point of contact for IT inquiries. Support the IT service desk and triage of IT issues.
• Ability to resolve network and infrastructure issues.
• Experience with set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot firewalls, routers, switches and other network devices.
• Ability to provide application support for all DVS applications and any standard desktop applications (Adobe, Microsoft, etc.).
• Ability to install and troubleshoot wireless access points and extenders.
• Ability to install voice and network cabling, IPsec, and various WAN and Internet service provider solutions.
• Experience with resolving issues related to desktop and laptop PC hardware, software, and operations, mobile devices (IOS and Android)
• Resolve issues related to voice / telephone systems (VOIP, analog, softphones, eFax, etc.).
• Ability to monitor computer systems and network performance.
• Provide technical opinions on various activities related to the design, documentation, implementation, calibration, repairs, and maintenance of network hardware and software
• Attend regular team meetings.
• Collaborate consistently with supervisors and project stakeholders to align on goals, progress, and requirements
• Collaborate with other team members to share daily duties and suggested troubleshooting methods and solutions.
• Maintain clear and proactive updates to the supervisor regarding task completion and progress.
• Track all end-user support activities through our ticketing system.
• Ability to track all IT assets.
• Document any changes to systems, update training and system documents, and write up new procedures to solve issues and problems
• Demonstrate a professional and courteous attitude with all DVS staff and customers/clients (veterans & family), and support vendors, while communicating clearly and effectively with each.
•Coordinate and update the IT team calendar to reflect upcoming absences, travel plans, and operational activities.
• Maintain accurate tracking of IT projects and assignments delegated by IT leadership.
• Lead and coordinate IT projects as directed, ensuring effective planning, execution, and communication.
• Consistently complete assigned tasks within established timelines and performance expectations.
Additional Considerations
College coursework in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience perferred. IT training or related course is acceptable
