Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is hiring! DCR is the state’s lead conservation agency, providing access for outdoor recreation, strengthening communities’ flood resilience, and protecting what Virginians care about: clean water, parks, natural habitat, and open spaces.

Virginia State Parks' Professional Development Team is accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant position.

In this position, you will provide administrative support to the State Parks Professional Development Team. Duties will include:

  • Budget reconciliations and expenditure tracking for multiple cost centers
  • Completing travel approvals, reimbursement forms, and registrations
  • Procurement activities for training and professional development
  • Ordering, tracking, and maintaining uniform inventory for internship programs
  • Providing support for events and corporate meetings
  • Preparing reports, coordinating meeting schedules, and entering data into financial reporting systems.

This position does not qualify for telework or hybrid work arrangements. The selected candidate will report on-site at DCR's Main Street Center Office.

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for Commonwealth of Virginia benefits (health care, paid leave, etc.) and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge and proficiency of Microsoft Office 365 software
  • Work experience with budget reconciliation and tracking
  • Experience demonstrating excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience demonstrating excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team


Additional Considerations

  • Experience with travel approval and/or reimbursement processes
  • Experience with eVA procurements
  • Experience with event planning
  • Familiarity with State Parks operations
  • Familiarity with state government processes and systems
