The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

The Senior Licensing Specialist position serves as a subject matter expert for audit and licensure processes by providing licensing support for the Board of Social Work responsible for the licensing of clinical social workers, baccalaureate social workers, master's social workers, music therapists, and supervisees in social work by accurately and efficiently applying laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Additonally, this position conducts the annual audits and review process for compliance with continuing education requirements for licensure renewal. Responsibilties include the review of complex applications that require detailed review and research of education, and handling conridential and sensitive information on a routine basis. Collaboration, consultation, and correspondence with agency staff, as well as outside agencies and entities are also included as routine duties.

This posting will be used to fill two Senior Licensing Specialist positions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations and /procedures associated with licensing and regulations.

• Demonstrated ability to thoroughly review, analyze, and evaluate applications, supporting documents,
education and legal documents, laws and regulations, and technical material to make valid
determinations and recommendations.

Ability to develop and utilize auditing plans and tools to ensure process integrity.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with agency personnel, licensees, and the public, including the ability to prepare official documents, forms, and reports with accuracy and proofread routine correspondence and reports with close attention to detail, grammar and punctuation standards.

• Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to self-organize and prioritize workflow with minimal supervision in a fast-paced working environment, while working collaboratively with Board and agency staff, the public, and others.

• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, and calendar functions; familiarity with data entry and database management system reports, and electronic file maintenance.

• Demonstrated knowledge regarding information technology, computer skills, Google applications as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Demonstrated ability to manage paper and electronic files and records.

• Demonstrated knowledge of the Administrative Process Act and its application to licensure.

• Demonstrated knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act and its application to licensure and public meetings.

• Demonstrated ability to read, understand and apply laws and regulations.

• Ability to handle confidential information.

Additional Considerations

• Experience in a regulatory, legal, or healthcare environment, and in working with an agency, board, or similar public body.
