Bring Your Employee Relations Expertise to DMV

You know this work. You’ve built investigations from intake to findings, written position statements that hold up under scrutiny, managed grievance timelines without missing a step, and guided managers through disciplinary actions that had to be handled exactly right. You understand the Standards of Conduct, the Grievance Procedure Manual, and what it takes to stay objective when emotions run high.

Now imagine applying that expertise at one of the Commonwealth’s largest and most visible agencies. DMV serves the motoring public across Virginia through a workforce spread across headquarters, customer service centers, and specialized operations. That scale brings a steady volume of complex, sensitive, and unique employee relations matters, along with the opportunity to see patterns across the agency and influence how leadership responds to them.

DMV’s Human Resources team is looking for an experienced Employee Relations/EEO Consultant ready to take on that challenge: a trusted advisor to managers, an objective investigator employees can count on, and a strategic voice helping leadership build a fair and accountable workplace.

Why This Role Is Worth the Move

  • Complexity that sharpens your skills. A large, diverse workforce means a broad range of cases, from performance and misconduct issues to EEO complaints and religious accommodations. You’ll keep your skills sharp across the full spectrum of ER work.
  • Influence beyond the case file. You’ll track complaint trends, advise leadership on best practices to reduce real or perceived prohibited conduct, and help shape how the agency prevents problems rather than only responding to them.
  • Your expertise, put to strategic use. Beyond casework, you’ll develop job aids, case scenarios, and reference materials that help supervisors apply policy correctly every day, extending your impact well beyond the matters that reach your desk.
  • A clear step forward. For ER professionals ready to advance, this role offers a higher level of responsibility, independence, and visibility with agency leadership.
  • A team that values your judgment. You’ll join a Human Resources division that relies on sound, well-documented recommendations, with colleagues who share knowledge and support one another through challenging cases.

  • Experience administering employee grievance or dispute resolution processes, including tracking required timeframes.
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations, including gathering and analyzing evidence related to employee complaints and making objective findings.
  • Experience writing investigative reports, position statements responding to discrimination charges, and employment-related correspondence such as due process and grievance correspondence.
  • Experience processing employee accommodation requests, including engaging in the interactive process, documenting decisions, and maintaining confidential records.
