Job Duties

The Spartan Pathfinders Program Coordinator is a key position responsible for overseeing and coordinating the Spartan Pathfinders initiative at Norfolk State University. This role will work closely with senior administrators in Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs to ensure comprehensive and strategic activities are in place to support the success of the program's target populations, specifically Pell-eligible and in-state students.

1. Program Development: Collaborate with senior administrators to develop and implement the Spartan Pathfinders program, including the Attract, Support, and Connect prongs. This includes designing tailored summer bridge and enrichment programs, academic support initiatives, and career development opportunities.
2. Student Engagement: Create and implement engagement strategies that focus on college access, academic preparedness, career development and readiness, wellness, and financial literacy for program participants.
3. Resource Utilization: Leverage resources effectively to provide the most comprehensive support to students. Identify and secure necessary resources, including partnerships and collaborations with local organizations and institutions.
4. Data Analysis: Utilize the Prosper Matrix, a data-driven resource, to inform recruitment and retention strategies for economically disadvantaged students in Virginia. Monitor and assess program effectiveness using comprehensive mixed-method evaluation plans, including formative and summative collection methods and logic models.
5. Collaboration: Collaborate with various university departments and offices to ensure the successful implementation of the program. Foster a collaborative environment among administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
6. Student Support: Provide academic coaching, guidance on graduate school preparation, wellness and financial literacy programs, tutoring, mentoring, and access to financial assistance and completion scholarships.
7. Reporting: Prepare regular reports and updates on the program's progress and impact for university stakeholders, including senior leadership, faculty, and external partners.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A Master’s degree in education, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
2. Experience working with diverse student populations, particularly low-income, first-generation, and minority students.
3. Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate complex initiatives.
4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
5. Proficiency in data analysis and the use of data-driven resources for decision-making.
6. Experience in program development and evaluation.
7. A commitment to promoting equity and access in higher education.
