Henrico County Health District (HCHD) is currently seeking a (Wage) Public Health Nurse (PHN) to join our team! Previous Applicants Need Not Apply!
HCHD is a part of the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and exists to protect and improve the health of all Henrico County residents. Public Health Nurses independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. The public health nurse will primarily work with Refugee, Immunization, Family Planning and STI clients. This nurse will also cross-train in other public health programs as needed. Participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
This position will primarily work out of our West Henrico Health Clinic (8600 Dixon Powers Drive) and out of our East Henrico Health Clinic (1400 N. Laburnum Avenue) and other locations in the community as needed. Parking at each of HCHD's offices is free of charge and hassle free! Standard work schedule, Monday – Friday, between 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (occasional evening and weekend hours based on community events).
The selected incumbent will work a maximum of 30 hours a week, not to exceed 1500 hours a year, with flexible scheduling options available.
Minimum Qualifications
• Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities.
• Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique.
• Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public.
• Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management.
• May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
• Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR.
• Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing. Requires BLS certification. Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.
Additional Considerations
• Additional study in the area of health promotion/or public health is preferred.
• Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and
health promotion
