Job Duties

The Department of Physics at Norfolk State University (NSU) invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Quantum Science. The physics department offers a BS in physics, an MS in Materials Science, and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. We are seeking faculty with expertise in areas that align with the exploration of novel quantum materials and devices poised to make significant impacts on the advancement of modern technology and contribute to the development of a quantum science graduate program. The appointment is expected to begin August 2025, the position remains open until filled.

 


Minimum Qualifications

• PhD degree in Physics or closely related field
• A record of publication and experience in one or both of the following areas.
  -  Ultrafast laser spectroscopy of strongly correlated quantum materials.
   - Fabrication of quantum devices, superconducting electronics, and devices that integrate quantum materials into new technologies.
• Candidates should show an interest and ability to communicate and mentor a diverse student-body of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for all students regardless of background.
