Job Duties
The Adult Education Teacher is responsible for providing quality instruction that meets the needs of the student in the areas of basic adult education and GED standards. Additionally, to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements. This position provides individual and group instruction to male/female supervisees at St. Brides Correctional Center. Successful candidate will maintain classroom, equipment and inventories; ensure compliance with all DOC regulations; maintain accurate records and submit timely reports; and manage and supervise aides and students in a classroom setting.
Note: Successful candidates are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for continued employment in this position. If seeking reciprocity from another state, candidates must submit all documentation for a Virginia Teaching License within 90 days of employment and satisfy all requirements within a year.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university. Demonstrated ability to teach and engage students (including one-on-one instruction). Demonstrated ability to supervise students and aides in a classroom setting. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records; the ability to facilitate other instructors. Must possess a Virginia Teaching license or be eligible for a provisional license by the Virginia Department of Education. Preferred Qualifications
Current Teaching License with an endorsement in Adult Education, Special Education or academic subject(s). Experience teaching adults and or youth. Experience in a correctional or alternative education setting. Knowledge and experience of policy and procedures governing adult education. Master’s degree preferably a major or minor in a relevant educational field.
