Job Summary

The Instructional Designer for the Distance Education Department (DED) and Teaching and Learning Center designs and develops programs to include:
• Design media-rich, engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound materials
• Develop content which addresses student-to-instructor learning, student-to-student learning, and student-to-content learning and increases student retention
• Utilize course management systems’ retention tools and reports to identify and track at-risk online students.

Job Duties

  • 75% - • Design interactive, accessible, and student-centered instructional materials for fully online learning courses including providing course development support to faculty • Provide workshops and one-on-one trainings on curriculum design to faculty • Assist in improving the quality of JSCC’s online program to meet and maintain compliance with SACS standards • To increase retention of students, develop rubrics in consultation with Deans to track adherence to department-wide academic standards and course competencies in online courses. • Provide training and support to faculty in the use of campus-related software including D2L, Microsoft Office products, Respondus, Nearpod, and Articulate 360 - (Essential)
  • 25% - • Identify, monitor and track at-risk online students’ progress through the course management system; assist in the collection, analyzing, and reporting of student retention data • Prepare reports as requested for JSCC, TBR, and/ or SACS • Serve on committees as needed/ requested • Assume responsibility for other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor - (Marginal)

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree
1-2 years instructional design/ development experience
Online teaching experience
*Examples of course design/ development strongly encouraged

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree with specialization in Instructional Design, Instruction and Curriculum Design, Instructional Technology, or related field with emphasis in instructional design and development.
1-2 years higher education instructional design/ development experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Broad knowledge of computer applications, course design and development management, and multi-media software
• Extensive knowledge or online pedagogy, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT)
• Understanding of WCAG 2.0 and ADA accessibility standards
• Extensive knowledge of the following software packages but not limited to: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, Camtasia, Respondus, Zoom, and Articulate 360.
• Sufficient knowledge of the following applications to provide training and provide expert technical support
o Learning Management Systems (LMS): Desire2Learn (D2L) preferred
o Content Management Systems: Articulate 360 preferred
o Distance Learning Interactive Videoconferencing Systems: Zoom preferred
o Online Educational Resources: MERLOT or TN Open Education preferred
o Student Information Systems such as Luminis (Banner)

Pay Rate: $47,031 - $58,788 Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
