Job Title: Custodian

Campus Location: WSCC-Sevier County Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose: he purpose of this position is to perform custodial functions on an assigned Walters State campus. This position also helps the Custodial Lead worker through task identification, task completion, and completion of required training programs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Completes a set of assigned custodial tasks and aids in the coordination of custodial efforts at assigned location. 
  • Identifies and assists in the requisition of supplies for assigned campus and maintains custodial supplies needed in primarily assigned area.
  • Identifies and assists in the completion of tasks as recorded in the Events Management System. 
  • Participates and completes training programs identified to maintain regulatory compliance. Some training is issued from Human Resources, while some other training is identified as necessary for the safe, efficient completion of custodial assignments. 
  • May perform other duties as required. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A high school diploma or an equivalent certificate
  • Minimum of three years in a related position
  • Mechanical aptitude to perform light maintenance, as needed
  • Ability to utilize phone system, Microsoft Outlook, and Banner for training and communication purposes
  • Knowledge and ability to use vacuum, scrubber, ladder, carpet extraction machine, hand tools, chemical proportioning equipment, and laundry equipment.

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for the supervision of others, project direction, or program administration. The position operates with moderate supervision, and tasks are somewhat varied. One’s immediate supervisor is readily available for consultation, but familiar work is expected to be performed with only moderate supervision with periodic checks on performance and conformance with expectations.

Environment & Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to extreme heat, humidity, noise, and temperature changes. Occasional exposure to extreme cold. Due to the nature of the position, bodily injury could occur, including damage from flying debris, falls, or hearing damage from loud noises.

Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):

  • Ability to safely operate industrial cleaning tools and instruments
  • Hours can vary depending on the scope and nature of an event, as well as the number of workers present for preparation and/or closing.
  • Working on weekends can occur based on event schedules.
