The Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Dickson is accepting applications for the full-time position of Associate Instructor in the Welding Technology program at the Turney Center Industrial Complex, a correctional facility, in Only, TN.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Technical Diploma in instructional area or equivalent higher education training with credentials in related field. Associate Degree preferred. A comparable combination of education and directly related experience may be considered.
- Minimum three (3) years of full-time experience in the welding field within the last five (5) years.
- Experience working in a correctional facility highly preferred.
- Must possess all required certifications for the field or the ability to become certified within three (3) calendar months. CWE and CWI certifications a plus.
- Must possess computer skills.
- Strong hands-on technical background in field of instruction.
- Must possess a high degree of knowledge in the following areas: shielded metal arc (STICK), gas metal arc (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and flux cored arc welding; symbols and blueprint reading; cutting techniques; grinding; metal preparation; metallurgy; layout; fabrication; power tools; and measurement techniques.
SKILLS
- Must be willing to work in a correctional facility.
- Must possess the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher.
- Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and program accreditation(s).
- Must show evidence of good character and mature attitude.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal working relationships with students, faculty, staff, the general public and correctional facility personnel.
GENERAL DUTIES: The Welding Technology Associate Instructor is responsible for instructing incarcerated individuals inside a correctional facility in order to prepare them to re-enter the job market in the welding field. The Associate Instructor must monitor, grade and evaluate individual students’ progress; maintain appropriate documentation of student progress; submit timely reports; and maintain close communication with correctional personnel and TCAT Dickson administration. This position provides theory and hands-on skills instruction. Areas of instruction include shielded metal arc (STICK), gas metal arc (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG) and flux cored arc welding; symbols and blueprint reading; cutting techniques; grinding; metal preparation; metallurgy; layout; fabrication; power tools; and measurement techniques. This position is full-time and reports to the Turney Center Program Coordinator. Applicants selected for an interview will be required to tour the Turney Center facility. Scheduled work hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
SALARY: $51,646-$61,976 per year ($26.49-$31.83 per hour). Commensurate with Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology salary guidelines and related experience.
