POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program director, the ideal candidate for this adjunct PTA faculty position will exhibit a passion for educating the future PTAs enrolled in the PTA program. Successful candidates will be innovative, collaborative, and supportive individuals who demonstrate their dedication to the physical therapy profession. The primary responsibility of this adjunct position is classroom and / or lab instruction. The individual will display a desire to work collaboratively with PTA faculty in the classroom and laboratory setting. This position may be responsible for clinic visits as assigned by the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
In this role, the faculty member is responsible for the following:
Course and Curriculum Development:
- Creates and revises of courses and/or curricula as needed.
- Maintains updated course syllabi that provide organized expectations for learning and academic achievement that are clearly documented in each course syllabus and clearly communicates those expectations to students
- Collaborates and communicates with other PTA faculty to provide unified and consistent instruction in laboratory classes.
- Models professional behavior to include the best scholarly and ethical standards.
- Maintains accurate academic and professional records and reports in a timely fashion.
- Provides additional academic assistance and advisement of PTA students as need to promote success in the program.
Professional Growth:
- Remains current within the field of assigned instruction.
- Acquires, maintains, and applies knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials
- Attends scheduled PTA faculty meetings
- Maintains active and unrestricted PT or PTA license.
Service to Students:
- Creates an academic environment that is open and encouraging to all students and espect
the rights of students and access to educational opportunities
- Assists in recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of potential students
- Supports student activities including the PTA club.
Service to the College and Community:
- Participates in accreditation processes.
- Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with colleagues
- Attends required college, division, and program meetings
Holistic Student Support
- Is familiar with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Student Health Clinic, Tiger Cupboard, Helping Hands Fund, Campus Police, and the Center for Access and Disability Services
- Ensures these services are accessible and responsive to diverse student needs.
- Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts
Fiscal Stewardship
- Supports the responsible fiscal stewardship of the funds allocated to the Nursing and Allied Health Division
- Adheres to all Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) policies relative to financial governance.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- PT or PTA with a minimum of 3 years of full-time, post-licensure clinical experience in physical therapy
- Unrestricted PT of PTA license in any United States Jurisdiction and are compliant with the Tennessee state practice act.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Physical Therapist Assistant
- Current employment in the field of physical therapy as a clinician
- Prior classroom teaching experience
- Experience as a clinical instructor
