Job Summary
This is a full-time academic-year (9-month) term appointment faculty position reporting to the Department Chair of Technologies. Teaching responsibilities will include foundational and advanced AI topics such as Python programming, data analysis, machine learning, artificial intelligence tools and frameworks, neural networks, and ethical considerations in AI. The faculty member will also play a key role in shaping the AI curriculum and integrating hands-on learning experiences into the program.
The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Southwest Tennessee Community College campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations.
Job Duties
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students on topics such as technical mathematics and courses within the Artificial Intelligence Technology AAS program.
- Teaches departmental courses during the day (typically four or five days per week), in the evening (usually two nights per week), and occasionally on Saturdays.
- Compiles, administers, evaluates and grades students' coursework, laboratory work, assignments, tests, and papers fairly and consistently; and keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work.
- Maintains office hours for students seeking academic advice, assists students with course-related problems outside of the classroom (tutoring), assists in the planning and implementation of the CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) plan at the department and program levels.
- Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
- Writes student laboratory exercises and conducts student laboratory sessions for courses taught.
- Participates in student recruitment, registration and placement activities; college/departmental committee assignments, and prepares departmental purchase requisitions.
- Maintains accurate student attendance records, grades, and other required records in compliance with federal FERPA regulations.
- May perform other duties as assigned by the program coordinator or department chair.
Minimum Qualifications
- Baccalaureate degree in computer engineering or computer engineering technology field, computer information systems, computer science, computer science education, computer-based information systems (e.g., management, decision), information technology, or software engineering and business or engineering programs with appropriate computer science or computer programming course work and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline or Associate's degree in a related field with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline
- A minimum of three (3) years of field experience is preferred.
- Experience teaching at a college or university level is preferred.
- Proficiency in Reading, Writing, and Explaining Code (Python preferred)
- A background check will be required for the successful candidate.
