JOB SUMMARY

The Recruiter is responsible for planning, implementing, and executing marketing and recruitment strategies to enhance new student enrollment. This role involves advising prospective students and their families about admissions, financial aid, career pathways, dual enrollment, and Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) opportunities. The Recruiter will oversee targeted recruitment efforts in specific counties, fostering positive relationships with high school staff and assisting with Dual Enrollment processes. They will represent the college at community events, promoting programs like Tennessee Promise and Reconnect, while maintaining a positive image among stakeholders. Communication and counseling will be key aspects of their role, as they engage with prospective students through various channels, providing guidance on enrollment procedures and program offerings. Additionally, they will coordinate events and activities to attract diverse student populations, working closely with student ambassadors to ensure effective outreach and engagement. Overall, the Recruiter plays a pivotal role in driving enrollment initiatives, managing communication strategies, and fostering a welcoming environment for prospective students. The position integrates career community engagement and workforce analysis, utilizing labor market platforms to align academic pathways with high-demand career fields.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Recruitment Coordination (30%)

  • Plan, oversee and implement effective marketing and recruitment strategies and events to maximize new student enrollment.
  • Coordinates recruitment activities targeting all target groups, such as, general public, traditional, non-traditional, parent, middle school, and assists the veteran’s coordinator. 
  • Serves as the point of contact for service area high schools for dual enrollment and traditional students.
  • Serves as a point of contact for our service area industries, adult education centers, and other non-traditional populations. 
  • Coordinates activities from inquiry to enrollment.
  • Assists with Dual Enrollment processes and promotes the program.
  • Maintain an awareness of campus life activities and advise students of opportunities to become socially engage with peers in College.
  • Assist students and families with FAFSA completion.
  • Utilize labor market data platforms (i.e. Lightcast) to provide real-time insights, aligning academic program selection with high-demand career fields.
  • Possess deep knowledge of and participate in targeted initiatives within a specialized career community, offering expert-level support. Actively participate in specialized activities, leveraging knowledge of specific academic disciplines and patterns observed in student impact.
  • Maintain an awareness of potential noncredit workforce development opportunities. Increase student awareness of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) opportunities by informing them of eligibility criteria, available credit options, and the benefits of PLA in their educational journey.

Outreach, Communication and Representation (25%)

  • Represents the college at various events, to include, but not limited to, community fairs, events to facilitate outreach.
  • Promotes the college and coordinates Tennessee Promise, Tennessee Reconnect events, and FAFSA events.
  • Positively represents the college to various stakeholder groups and communities.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with school staff and administration.
  • Uses prospect and applicant Argos reports to pull and convert prospects to applicants to admitted students. Routinely uses the report as a contact strategy to navigate prospects/applicants through the enrollment processes.
  • Communicates with prospective students via various channels and follow up on inquiries.
  • Counsels prospective students in clarifying educational, career and personal developmental goals. 
  • Advises and counsels applicants with general and specific information about the enrollment processes, programs, and services.
  • Works with Marketing to design a Communication Plan for prospective students and applicants.
  • Maintains marketing materials including brochures, t-shirts, viewbooks, etc.

Program Implementation (25%)

  • Designs tailored services to address challenges and barriers for adults, and other non-traditional populations. 
  • Maintains a compilation list of available resources to address the needs. 
  • Creates, implements, and conducts recruitment activities, and logs outcomes, pitfalls, and successes.
  • Coordinates recruitment activities for all populations, including but not limited to, Campus Tours, Open House, Program Showcase, Cougar Days, and Halloween on Wheels.
  • Develops, coordinates and assists with special events, college-sponsored events and other activities at the college.

Student Ambassador Supervision and Information Sessions (20%)

  • Serves as the point of contact for Student Ambassadors.
  • Conducts detailed information sessions and tours for groups and individuals visiting the college.
  • Assists in Managing the CSCC Admissions and Recruitment social media accounts to provide updates and information.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking ability.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills including initiative program planning and assessment.
  • Excellent time management skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various software packages including Microsoft office suite.
  • Experience with BANNER software is helpful.
  • Knowledge of comprehensive community college concepts.
  • Knowledge of basic college recruitment concepts and strategies.
  • Experience in planning and executing events, such as community fairs, college visits, etc.
  • Awareness of effective customer service practices, and ability to implement them within an educational setting.
  • Capacity to identify challenges or obstacles in the recruitment process and develop creative solutions to overcome them, ensuring the successful implementation of recruitment initiatives.

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Must attend all college functions as required.
  • Serve on various college committees as approved by the supervisor.
  • The appointee will be required to meet those standards now required or which in the future may be required by the Tennessee State Board of Regents and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
  • The appointee may be required to achieve additional skill, knowledge, or credential levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

EQUIPMENT

Work activities routinely involve work with personal computers and peripheral devices. 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Associate Degree required from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of four (4) years combined experience in student success fields such as: admissions; academic advising; student support services (eg: tutoring, mentoring).
  • Previous experience in college admissions/recruitment or related fields preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in use of Google Suite and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel, required.
  • Community college experience and knowledge of Banner software preferred.
  • Must be a licensed driver and able to operate a vehicle.

 

JOB LOCATION

  • This position is an on-site role primarily located at the main campus of Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee. There will be requirements to serve the college’s McMinn Higher Education Center (MHEC) located in Athens, Tennessee.
  • Occasionally travel and work outside of normal business hours both on- and off-campus as events require within the service area.
  • Regular travel within the college’s service area is required, including service area high schools, as well as occasional travel to other sites for statewide meetings and other related events.
