Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Strategy and Innovation for Access and Leadership Enrichment, the Success Coach supports all students, particularly those who are underrepresented and underserved, in developing the skills and knowledge required for academic success. The Success Coach collaborates with student leaders and college staff to build upon and institutionalize student-led initiatives to connect underrepresented students to internal and external resources and services. They contribute to the development, promotion, and implementation of year-round LEAD Center (Center for Leadership, Enrichment, Access, and Discovery) programming and student success strategies that enhance students' academic and social experiences on campus, including day-to-day activities and the annual BEARS Academy.
Job Duties
- In partnership with student leaders and IAC staff, build upon and institutionalize student-led initiatives that connect underrepresented students to internal and external resources and services.
- Provide individualized support by working one-on-one with students - counsel students by phone, email, text, or face-to-face.
- Refer students to appropriate academic personnel and support services and collaborate with other programs and staff as necessary to monitor and accelerate student academic progress.
- Support the development, promotion, and implementation of year-round LEAD Center programming and student success strategies that enhance students' academic and social experiences on campus, including day-to-day activities and the annual BEARS Academy.
- Develop relationships and cultivate partnerships with faculty, staff, and community partners. Develop and implement intervention and success strategies for students in collaboration with other college offices.
- Foster student persistence and completion by managing a caseload of designated students.
- Collect, assess, analyze, and interpret programmatic, student engagement, and retention data; monitor satisfactory academic progress toward graduation. Follow up on various student success initiatives.
- Advise the Assistant Director and the VP of Institutional Advancement and Culture on strategies to enhance students' academic and social experiences.
- Oversee activities in the LEAD Center when LEAD Associates are not present.
- Treat others respectfully, speak to others courteously, and behave in such a way that creates a positive workplace environment characterized by trustworthiness, honest but polite communication, and interpersonal interactions that are cordial and professional.
- Remain current with departmental, institutional, and TBR policies and procedures.
- Complete other assignments as directed by the immediate supervisor or the Vice President.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Social Science, Communication, or Business-related field
· Experience working with underrepresented, underserved populations
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Education, Social Science, Communication, Business, or other related fields.
· Experience working in Higher Education student services.
· Experience developing and implementing educational and cultural programs and events.
· Active involvement with community organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Well-developed written and oral communication skills and keen attention to detail, including the ability to prepare and deliver professional reports and presentation
· Technology Skills: MS Office suite; videoconferencing software; digital records management systems; general operating systems and data information systems
· Knowledge of campus programs & services
· Knowledge of TBR and institutional policies
· Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
· Ability to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, and caseloads while prioritizing, planning,
documenting, and following up on actions and outcomes
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures
· Effective skills in interpersonal relations including tact and diplomacy.
