Title: Reading/Writing Specialist

Job Summary:
Assist students, faculty, and staff with all areas of tutoring concerns in Reading and Writing, including one-on-one instruction, group workshops, diagnostic assessments, and designing individualized tutoring support.
Job Duties:
In conjunction with the Learning Commons staff and with the guidance of relevant academic departments, collaborate in the continued development of tutoring services in reading and writing. Provide one-on-one and group tutoring services as needed. Serve as a liaison to the English and Reading departments and their faculty regarding reading and writing tutoring services. Greet, interview, and obtain intake information from prospective and current students for assistance in the Learning Commons at the Gallatin campus. Assist Director of Learning Commons with interviewing prospective English instructional assistants and peer tutors. Serve as an academic coach, providing intentional, individual student support aimed at fostering academic student success. Assist with training and mentoring reading and writing instructional assistants and peer tutors. Offer support to the Learning Commons staff at all campus locations. Review Learning Support placement results with students at the Gallatin campus and discuss options for completing Learning Support English and Reading. Assist the Testing Center and English department with administration of placement exams and other tests when requested. Assist potential students/community members from the community with writing projects related to employment (resumes, technical writing). Represent the Learning Commons in English Department meetings as requested. Provide academic writing support in the classroom and in the Learning Commons as requested by faculty. Manage essay review dropbox services. Alternate and/or work evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of Vol State students. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in English or related area.
Two years of English tutoring or English teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
English/Writing teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Possess the ability to be innovative, enthusiastic, creative, and flexible.
Able to create a student-friendly atmosphere.
Proficient in Microsoft office applications.
Excellent planning, design, coordinating, and time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
Pay Rate: $43,888 - $44,782 annual salary depending on experience
