JOB SUMMARY
The Sports Information Assistant will be responsible for all aspects of media coverage for the College's seven NJCAA athletic teams. The selected candidate must be committed to excellence and to advancing the Department of Athletics through a variety of media outlets.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Athletic Communications/Content Creation.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase awareness of the department's achievements.
- Create, research, write, and edit publications and web content for the Cleveland State sports programs.
- Issue press releases, respond to all media inquiries, and maintain statistical records for the athletic programs.
- Design and produce game programs, conduct audio and video interviews, and manage the athletic. website content to create a positive public message and image for the department.
- Manage and create athletic information on all athletics social media platforms which include, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
- Manage Cleveland State Athletic website with current information.
- Attend and cover home games, provide results to the media, and post appropriate recaps and game notes on the website in accordance with college approved style and policy.
- Work closely with the athletic staff to submit statistics, nominate student-athletes for weekly and seasonal awards, and provide miscellaneous aid in order for the conference and national offices to maintain their respective website.
- Assistant Director of Athletics with game day for all home athletics events.
- Work with athletics staff to promote Cleveland State Athletics through all outlets available
- Set up all live streaming for all home athletic events.
EQUIPMENT
- Work activities routinely involve work with tools and equipment related to athletics and physical fitness.
- Activities also involve work with personal computers and peripheral devices, as well as basic office machines.
- Must be a licensed driver and able to operate a rental vans.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Knowledge of news reporting and editing.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including skills for media posts.
- Knowledge of comprehensive community college concepts.
- Social media experience.
- Strong and effective interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of procedures to be followed in the event of an emergency.
- Demonstrated proficiency with various software packages including Microsoft office and Google suite.
JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or High School equivalency diploma required.
- A minimum of two (2) years of sports information experience/reporting.
- Ability to work with various populations (ie: student athletes, campus departments/employees, community members, etc.), as part of a team and work with others.
- Ability to work various schedules.
- Ability to work independently.
- Maintain athletics website and all social media platforms.
- Knowledge of athletics website platforms and ability to maintain all aspects of the website.
- Publish game recaps for athletic events as well as working with media outlets.
JOB LOCATION
This position is an on-site role located in the L. Quentin Lane Gymnasium, located on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College. Regular travel to athletic events at other institutions is expected.
