Title: Learning Support Instructor and Coordinator for Writing & Reading

Job Summary

This is a full-time, academic year (9 months), one-year term (renewable) appointment within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The faculty member is responsible for the planning and delivery of quality classroom instruction across multiple delivery formats, program coordination, assessment of student learning, and service to the shared governance of the college. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day and evening on any Jackson State Community College Campus.

Job Duties

  • Teaching: Deliver high-quality instruction in Writing and Reading Learning Support courses, and other courses as assigned, using innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students across a variety of modalities. May teach on multiple campuses and in the evenings.
  • Student and Course Assessment: Assess student performance through various methods and contribute to the continuous improvement of student learning outcomes in each course taught.
  • Program Development: Coordinate with other faculty and the Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences to enhance success in learning support courses, including curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
  • College Service: Provide mentorship to students in Writing and Reading learning support courses, supporting their educational and career goals. Additionally, the candidate will actively participate in college governance, including serving on committees and contributing to policy development and decision-making processes.
  • Community Engagement: Foster relationships with local organizations and community partners to create opportunities for student internships, service learning, and collaborative projects.
  • Professional Development: Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in the field of learning support, writing, reading, and higher education pedagogy.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as required to support the mission and goals of the college.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
• Experience teaching and/or tutoring a variety of learners and learning styles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education, English, or a related discipline.
• Experience teaching at the college level, particularly in the community college setting.
• Demonstrated experience teaching learning support or developmental writing courses.
• Experience teaching courses in a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid, virtual, and asynchronous online.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in LMS management as well as Microsoft Office applications.

Pay Rate: $42,647 - $51,176 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
