Job Summary
This is a full-time, academic-year (9 months), one-year (renewable) appointment within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The faculty member is responsible for the planning and delivery of quality classroom instruction across multiple delivery formats, assessment of student learning, and service to the shared governance of the college. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day and evening on any Jackson State Community College Campus.
Job Duties
- Teaching: Deliver high-quality instruction in US and World Histories, and other courses as assigned, using innovative teaching methods to engage and inspire students across a variety of modalities. May teach on multiple campuses and in the evenings.
- Student and Course Assessment: Assess student performance through various methods and contribute to the continuous improvement of student learning outcomes in each course taught.
- Program Development: Coordinate with other faculty and the Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences to expand and enhance the History pathway, including curriculum development, assessment, and accreditation processes.
- Student Advising & Mentoring: Provide academic advising and mentorship to students in the History and General Studies transfer pathways, supporting their educational and career goals.
- Shared Governance: Actively participate in college governance, including serving on committees and contributing to policy development and decision-making processes.
- Community Engagement: Foster relationships with local organizations and community partners to create opportunities for student internships, service learning, and collaborative projects.
- Professional Development: Pursue ongoing professional development to stay current with advancements in the field of history and higher education pedagogy.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as required to support the mission and goals of the college.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in History from a regionally accredited institution, or
• Master’s degree in another discipline from a regionally accredited institution and at least 18 graduate semester hours in History
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience teaching at the college level, particularly in the community college setting.
• Experience in program development and committee work in the college setting.
• Demonstrated experience teaching World Histories, particularly in non-Western cultures.
• Interest in and experience teaching other humanities and first-year experience courses.
• Experience teaching courses in a variety of modalities including in-person, hybrid, virtual, and asynchronous online.
• Ph.D. in History, or
• Ph.D. in a related field with 18 graduate hours in History.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in LMS management as well as Microsoft Office applications.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions

Pay Rate: $48, 351 - $58,021 (Annual salary depending on eligible experience, which is defined by the current compensation plan.)
