Position Summary:

The Academic Resources Department at Chattanooga State Community College is looking for a full-time Instructional Designer. The model candidate will display a drive to create authentic learning material that strives to meet the needs of a diverse student population. We are searching for an energized individual to work within our course development team, the Academic Resources department, and the Chattanooga State community. Effective candidates will work well with students and colleagues on a daily basis while providing a creative approach to the application of design theory and teaching principles to enhance teaching excellence.

Essential Functions

  • Design and develop effective learning experiences that meet course standards.
  • Apply design theories within the mandated college course development framework.
  • Establish engaging course layout and material to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Assist in process and project rolling reviews.
  • Work effectively within the college identified learning management system.
  • Establish or maintain records as requested.
  • Apply technical skills to all projects and tasks.

Holistic Student Support

  • Collaborate new methodology for layout and material presentation within our LMS with appropriate shareholders.
  • Remain accessible and welcoming to faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders
  • Employ behaviors and approaches that is open and encouraging to all students and which promotes a positive attitude in student learning and collegiate experience.
  • Employ various approaches to learner-centered design in a results-driven atmosphere. Adapt material to cross age, cultural, linguistic, and social barriers.
  • Transform topic dialogue and analysis by connecting to personal experience and environment.

Organizational Culture

  • Identify faculty and staff training needs and perspectives.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and in-person requests from students, colleagues, and the community in a timely and professional fashion.
  • Pinpoint needs and resources to ensure all federal and state accessibility standards are met.
  • Participate in a positive manner on a variety of projects based on departmental and collegiate needs.
  • Maintain collegial, professional and ethical conduct.
  • Advance the college’s vision, purpose, values, and mission.

Fiscal Stewardship

  • Perform tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Utilize departmental/college resources as appropriate for the position responsibilities.
  • Develop Open Educational Resources (OER) content to lessen student expenses.
  • Adhere to all relative TBR policies to financial governance.
  • Track project and task progress in the prescribed department project management software.
  • Support the department by participating fully in the course development team and departmental projects.

Program Innovation

  • Create or revise program and course content in conjunction with content experts and the Academic Resources course development team.
  • Identify new methods to present material, activities, or assessments to better convey knowledge to our student population.
  • Research instructional pedagogy and provide suggestions to content experts.
  • Establish and deliver training options for staff and faculty which follow andragogy teaching practices and delivery.
  • Create authentic learning material, activities, and assessments.
  • Work conscientiously with the course development team, the Academic Resources department, and other personnel as assigned on classroom/on-campus, hybrid, virtual, and online courses in a variety of disciplines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate technical skill and continuously improve technical abilities in Microsoft Office.
  • Understand and continuously improve technical abilities in Adobe programs.
  • Understand and continuously improve technical abilities in TechSmith programs.
  • Demonstrate an ability to acquire computer hardware and software skills quickly.
  • Commit to professional growth and development toward the application of improved instructional methods.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with computers and other forms of advanced technology to create a successful learning environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-secondary degree preferred.
  • Experience taking online courses preferred.
  • Knowledge using MS Office Suite, Adobe Products, and Techsmith

Salary Range: $43,037 - $53,797
