Job Summary
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for the full-time position of Welding Technology Faculty to be located at the Smyrna Campus in Smyrna, Tennessee.
This position is responsible for providing individualized classroom and lab instruction to high school and adult students in all phases of the Welding Technology Program. The Welding Technology faculty member shall be directly responsible to the Department of Instruction & Accreditation and the Office of the President. This position instructs the full-time evening program. The instructor works 37.5 hours per week. The class schedule is 3:30pm – 9:30pm, Monday through Thursday.
Job Duties
- Develop, plan and prepare a complete progressive course of study, lesson plans, assignment and instructional aids, and keep these revised and up to date to meet the requirements of industry.
- Monitor and assess motivation, conduct, safety, discipline, and appearance of student during the time on the institution campus.
- Assist with student placement and student follow-up.
- Evaluate student progress and maintain student records.
- Participate in professional development activities.
- Develop an active program advisory committee comprised of professionals from industry.
- Conduct visits to business and industry.
- Establish and maintain good public relations within the college’s service area.
- Engage in the recruitment of students for all welding programs.
- Serve as the liaison between dual enrollment welding and the college.
- Coordinate curriculum, learning outcomes, equipment, supplies and accreditation efforts for all Welding Technology programs.
- Effectively communicate pertinent information to all Welding Technology faculty.
- Maintain good public relations with business and industry, retain an active advisory committee and cooperate with outside agencies.
- Supervise and follow-up on students participating in cooperative education.
- Some travel is required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Postsecondary training from a technical school or manufacturing school in Welding Technology or related field.
- Minimum three (3) years of employment experience in the occupation to be taught.
- Must possess knowledge, skills, and experience to provide effective instruction in gas metal arc (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and shielded metal arc welding (Stick); oxyacetylene fusion, inner shield welding, flux core welding, flame cutting, brazing and soldering and related components of the Welding Technology program.
- Must possess knowledge, skills and experience to provide instruction in flux cored arc welding; symbols and blueprint reading; cutting techniques; grinding; metal preparation; metallurgy; layout; fabrication; power tools; and measurement techniques.
- The instructor must have good communications and computer skills and be willing to remain current in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Welder preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess knowledge, skills, and experience to provide effective instruction in gas metal arc (MIG), tungsten inert gas (TIG), and shielded metal arc welding (Stick); oxyacetylene fusion, inner shield welding, flux core welding, flame cutting, brazing and soldering and related components of the Welding Technology program.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Normal standing, sitting, and walking.
- Work is performed in a classroom and shop setting with frequent interruptions and distractions.
- Must be physically able to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, stand and work, with or without accommodation, to demonstrate and perform all work-based projects in a classroom and shop setting.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; use hands.
- Use of computer.
- Operate a motor vehicle to travel within the college service area and in other areas as needed.
SALARY: This is an exempt position. Salary commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
