POSITION SUMMARY
The Security Guard 1 position reports to the campus Chief of Police and provides general security functions that ensure a safe and healthy learning and working environment for all constituents of the College. The Security Guard monitors physical spaces, persons, and traffic to detect, prevent, report, and respond appropriately and to support the goals and objectives of the College’s strategic plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lock or unlock buildings and rooms.
- Lock doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure buildings.
- Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
- Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain the security of the premises.
- Patrol industrial or commercial premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or the presence of unauthorized persons.
- Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent the passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

- Must be able to demonstrate care for the well-being of students through supportive services by providing a caring and helpful attitude.
- Monitor general campus activities and functions; observe and report questionable/suspicious activities; interact with persons on campus; prepare reports on accidents or injuries such as seizures, scrapes, or falls; provide vehicle assistance such as recharging batteries and unlocking cars.
- Escort or drive a golf cart to transport individuals to specified locations or to provide personal protection.
- Respond to medical emergencies by administering basic first aid or by obtaining assistance from paramedics.
- Circulate among visitors, patrons, or employees to preserve order and protect property.
- Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when the switchboard is closed.
- Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary.
Teaching Excellence:
- Ensure a safe learning environment by monitoring all buildings, rooms, and lots for suspicious activity and serving on-call for assisting faculty and students with any security needs throughout class meeting times.

- Support and advance the College’s commitment to creating a welcoming and respectful environment for all.
- Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts and activities when appropriate.
- Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
Program Innovation and Fiscal stewardship
- Monitor and manage resources appropriately to avoid waste.
- Serve as a resource within the department for potential ideas for continuous improvement of processes, services, and supports.
- Monitor campus traffic; direct and control traffic including pedestrian and vehicle traffic; patrol parking areas; issue parking and traffic tickets; call in and prepare reports of traffic accidents.
- Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, or machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering.
- Monitor and adjust controls that regulate building systems, such as air conditioning, furnace, or boiler.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and training: High School Diploma or GED and Tennessee Department of Commerce Private Protective Services License Unarmed Security Guard.
- Work Experience: One-year involving security work.
- Valid driver's license.
Salary Range: $31,450 - $36,954
