Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance support the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on all Walters State campuses.
Essential Job Functions:
- Diagnoses and provides maintenance to air conditioning and heating system problems across the campus. Uses hand tools and grease guns to install any new equipment as necessary, such as pumps, controls, or valves.
- Arranges for and completes preventive maintenance tasks, including changing oil, filters, belts and greasing/lubricating air conditioning systems.
- Assists Facilities Management department with renovations or new construction projects with HVAC portion or other components as needed.
- May perform other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- A technical certificate in HVAC and/or Industrial Electricity, or at least five years of career experience
- Knowledge of HVAC, controls, electricity, and hydraulics
- Ability to operate refrigerant reclaim machine, a vacuum pump, and related gauges and hand tools necessary for HVAC repair
- Universal Refrigeration Certificate or ability to obtain within 6 months
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of 3 phase electricity
- Working knowledge of Chiller, water to water systems and air to water systems
- Experience with building automation systems

Leadership & Supervisory: The incumbent has no responsibility for the supervision of others, or for project direction. Tasks are somewhat varied, and so an immediate supervisor is available for consultation. Familiar work is expected to be performed with only periodic checks on progress and conformance with expectations.
Environment & Working Conditions: Constantly being outdoors causes exposure to conditions such as occasional extreme cold, frequent high heat, temperature changes, noise, and humidity. There is a moderate chance of electrical shock, falls from ladders, chemical burns, and bodily injuries from power tools or lifting heavy materials. Occasionally will have to crawl in tight places in order to make repairs.

- Ability to operate a vehicle
- Will occasionally have to crawl through confined areas in order to make repairs
- Ability to operate small hand power tools such as a drill or blowtorch
