General Function:

 

Responsible for developing, executing, and evaluating comprehensive marketing and communications strategies to advance the brand, mission, and enrollment goals of Motlow State.  Oversees multi-channel marketing efforts across all campuses, ensuring consistency in messaging and alignment with institutional priorities. Collaborates with internal departments, faculty, and administration to promote student recruitment, retention, and community engagement initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:   

Bachelor’s degree earned from a regionally accredited institution in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field and 7 years of progressively responsible marketing experience, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Master’s degree earned from a regionally accredited institution in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field and 7 years of progressively responsible marketing experience in higher education, preferably in a community college setting, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide leadership, direction, guidance, development, oversight, unit budget management, and policy formation for Marketing unit; Recruit, train, and support other members of the Marketing team; Ensure compliance with , TBR, MSCC, THEC, and other applicable agencies policy.

  • Develop and implement a cohesive, data-informed marketing strategy that supports student enrollment, program awareness, and institutional branding across all campuses.
  • Manage the college’s brand identity and ensure consistent use across all communication channels, including print, digital, social media, video, and advertising.
  • Oversee content creation and campaigns for student recruitment, academic programs, workforce development, continuing education, and special events.
  • Partner with Academic Affairs, Student Success, Workforce Development, and College Advancement Divisions to support cross-functional marketing needs.
  • Lead market research and data analysis efforts to understand target audiences, measure campaign effectiveness, and guide strategic decisions.
  • Manage the college’s website and digital presence, ensuring accessibility, user experience, and relevance of content.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media relations and public communications as needed. Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
  • Develop and manage marketing budgets, ensuring cost-effective campaign execution and appropriate resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with campus departments to plan, promote, and support college-wide events such as open houses, commencement, community outreach, and donor or alumni events, ensuring alignment with the College’s brand and communications strategy.
  • Monitor higher education marketing trends and best practices to keep the college at the forefront of innovation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective positive working relationships with college executives, faculty, staff, students, media, community leaders, and other stakeholders on matters pertinent to the college.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, with college executives, faculty, staff, students, media, community leaders, and other stakeholders on matters pertinent to the college including interpersonal interactions, public speaking, and individual or group presentations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing utilizing the Associated Press communications standards, AP Style advanced editing skills, and professional language in all internal and external messaging while maintaining confidentiality and FERPA standards.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and practices and the ability to effectively apply them in the higher education environment.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to plan, execute, and assess multi-channel marketing and communication campaigns.
  • Ability to develop long-term strategic plans while managing day-to-day operations.
