Job Summary
The Adult Education Adjunct Instructor for Corrections is responsible for guiding and instructing individuals seeking to advance employability and basic education skills. This role provides academic instruction, career coaching, and workforce development support for adult learners with varying educational functioning levels. The successful candidate will regularly interact with students, provide instruction, and perform registration and intake-related services at Adult Education instructional sites, which include the American Job Centers, local businesses, housing authorities, rehabilitation facilities, and county jails.
Job Duties
• Plan, teach and evaluate student work
• Accept responsibility and is self-motivated

• Assist with graduation
• Assist with student registration, assessment, orientation/counseling
• Administer and interpret scores for TABE, CASAS, and HiSET OPT exams for student placement and instruction
• Organize and maintain confidential program and student files as well as report documentation, including maintaining correct student sign-in sheets
• Provide office coverage, customer service, and assist with student registration, class assignment, attendance, and student goals
• Maintain technical knowledge by engaging in opportunities to improve or increase skills
• Contribute to team effort
• Provide instruction for digital education classroom
• Provide instruction for corrections students (as needed)
• Maintaining time and effort documentation
• Work toward classroom improvement based on program goals
• Post-test all students after 40 hours of instruction
• Work with Leadership Team to develop a program that supports students’ progression through the National Reporting System levels – ensuring level gains
• Support the Adult Education Office with general clerical duties (filing, faxing, disbursement of administrative and instructional materials, restock supplies, etc.)
• Manage electronic filing system
• Complete data entry in a timely manner adhering to all reporting deadlines
• Organize and maintain confidential program and student files as well as report documentation
• Collaborate with Instructors and Career Coaches
• Provide assistance for those seeking to learn English as a Second Language
• Assist with student needs, registration, and intake-related activities for potential and current students • Willingness to learn and support the department as it relates to new tasks and/or responsibilities
• Assist with scheduling, proctoring, and scoring state-required tests (CASAS; TABE; OPT; HiSET).
• Maintain class, staff, and event schedules
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• Baccalaureate in Education or related field, Tennessee Teacher’s License (preferred or approved waiver, or experience in teaching).
• Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) is required
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in an Adult Education environment is preferred

• Travel to satellite class locations if necessary

• Demonstrate command of content knowledge of current AE Curriculum and recommended resources

Physical Demands / Working Conditions
The work is performed in an environmentally controlled office setting. Physically, the work is generally sedentary, with the occasional requirement to walk about. Some light lifting may be required.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications, experience, education, and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
