Job Title: Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator - Temporary Part-time
Flat Salary: $22,960.00
Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a “home” location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)
Job Purpose: The Women’s Basketball Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Women’s Basketball Coach in coaching a highly competitive NJCAA women’s basketball program, recruiting student athletes, assisting in coordinating practices and activity travel, and promoting events and activities.
Essential Job Functions:
- Recruitment of basketball scholarship student-athletes as follows: Evaluates talent throughout the year and coordinates a communication plan with prospects; Replies to recruiting correspondence; Knowledgeable of the Recruiting System, Front Rush; Corresponds with high school coaches in and out o state; Assists in coordinating and implementing prospect recruiting visits; and has the ability to recruit before and after holidays.
- Coaching: Responsible for practice preparation, proving instruction and motivation during practice; Administers individual and group workouts in pre and post season; Assists with the development of the strength and conditioning program for student athletes as well as coordinating strength groups with players around academic schedules.
- Assist with academic advising and monitoring academic progress of student athletes: Assists student athletes with the Financial Aid Process and supports the academic development and graduation of student athletes.
- Scout Basketball Opponents: Responsible for scouting all opponents; Analyzing scouting reports with the Head Coach and staff; Assisting staff in practice preparation based on the scouting report.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Knowledge of intercollegiate basketball programs
- Strong communication skills and ability to persuade prospective athletes to attend WSCC.
- Up-to-date knowledge of NJCAA, TCCAA, and appropriate TN Board of Regents’ policies and procedures.
- Ability to travel for team practices, competition, and scouting in and out of state
- Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four years of having played basketball at the collegiate level.
- Two or more years of coaching basketball at the high school or collegiate level.

Leadership & Supervisory: Assist in the supervision and coordination of women’s basketball events and activities; attends scheduled women’s basketball practices, classes, and all competitions; enforces safety regulations and procedures.
Environment & Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed under limited supervision on a basketball court, in a classroom or office setting with appropriate climate control. Travel, early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.
Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle.
- Requires working some nights and weekends.
- Requires extensive travel for recruiting and tournaments.
