Job Summary
The Director of Student Accessibility Services is responsible for supporting student success by evaluating accommodation requests and determining appropriate services based on documentation. This role works closely with students, faculty, and staff to implement accommodations effectively, ensures compliance with relevant laws (e.g., ADA, FERPA, Title IX), and maintains accurate records and resources.
The position also includes communicating with prospective students and families, managing accessibility-related content, coordinating testing accommodations, and contributing to broader student support initiatives within the Dean of Students team. Strong collaboration, communication skills, and experience in a higher education environment are essential, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
This is an on-site role based at the Harriman campus with occasional travel required.
Job Duties
- Assess student accommodation requests, engaging in the interactive process with each student.
- Determine appropriate accommodations for qualifying students based on a thorough review of documentation from medical, psychological, and education professionals.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to determine the best ways to implement student accommodation plans.
- Communicate with prospective students and their families about the process of requesting accommodations.
- Document interactions with students in a database management system.
- Maintain appropriate content on website about accommodations and resources available for students.
- Work directly with the Testing Centers to assist with accommodation testing and provide training and updates to accessibility software.
- Assist the Dean of Students in overall management of the Dean of Students team and initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in student development/student affairs, counseling, or related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience with accommodation plans.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in student development/student affairs, counseling, or related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience with accommodation plans in the collegiate environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of legal issues and relevant state and federal laws related to higher education and student affairs administration (including, but not limited to FERPA, ADA, Clery, and Title IX).
- Ability to work independently, take personal initiative, and work within a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaboration with others in the development and delivery of programs across multiple areas.
- Exemplary written and verbal communication skills are required. Must be able to write concisely and professionally.
