Job Summary
The Fire Science Professor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction and training in fire science and emergency services courses. This role engages students through classroom, laboratory, and field-based learning; evaluates student performance; provides academic support; and ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal standards. The instructor utilizes Brightspace and other instructional technologies to deliver course content, maintain records, and support student success. Candidates must possess strong fire service credentials, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to safely demonstrate and supervise practical fire service training activities. Experience in instructional delivery, curriculum development, and advanced fire service certifications is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in fire science or related field.
Hold a valid, Tennessee Fire Commission -Fire Instructor II Certification Academy Credentialed Instructor (ACI) in Introduction to Fire and Emergency Services and Basic Firefighting.
Successful competition of the TN Fire Commission FO120-Coducting Live Fire Evolutions Class.
Be familiar with IAFC/NFPS 1010
Preferred Qualifications
All of the above, including holding a H310 TEMA HAZMAT Team Operations Course (Technical Level) or higher certification.
Fire Officer, Fire Inspector, Driver/Operator, or other advanced fire service certifications.
Experience teaching in a college, fire academy, or fire department training setting.
Experience with curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation or certification compliance.
Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
Classroom, office, laboratory, and field-based instruction.
Physical ability to demonstrate or supervise fire service skills.
Use of personal protective equipment during training evolutions.
Travel to training sites, fire departments, or partner agencies.
Evening or weekend instruction as needed.
Compliance with all safety standards during practical and live training activities.
