Job Summary

Roane State Community College invites applications for a tenure track appointment in Chemistry beginning January 2027. The emphasis of this position is on the ability to teach inorganic and organic chemistry lecture and lab courses. The Chemistry Faculty member is responsible for teaching chemistry courses and laboratories in face-to-face and online learning environments while utilizing technology to enhance student learning. This position maintains a full teaching load, provides student support through scheduled office hours, and contributes to the college's mission through advising, committee service, outreach activities, and participation in campus events. The successful candidate will possess a master's degree with appropriate graduate coursework in chemistry or a related field, have experience teaching chemistry, and demonstrate strong communication, flexibility, and collaborative skills.

Job Duties

  • Plan and teach classes as outlined in the course descriptions and course syllabi, through traditional face-to-face or online settings.
  • Teach 15 course hours per semester and schedule office hours as specified by campus policy.
  • Use of technology to support student learning is expected.
  • Prepare and teach laboratories in support of classes.
  • Respond promptly to requests from the Dean’s office.
  • Support the mission of the college through service such as departmental meetings, committee work, advising, commencement, convocation, and outreach activities. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree with a combination of 18 graduate semester hours in relevant coursework from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning, as defined in current standards for qualifications of faculty.

A minimum of 1-year experience teaching Chemistry courses.

Candidate must have good written communication skills and exhibit flexibility and collegiality.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent organizational and communication skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualified candidates are expected to provide rigorous instruction for student learning and engage in professional development in support of the college’s teaching mission. Major emphasis will be placed on teaching and evaluating students in lecture and laboratory. Typical teaching loads may include Introduction to Chemistry I & II, General Chemistry I & II and Organic Chemistry I & II lectures and labs on an as-needed basis, evening hours, and/or travel to satellite campuses.
