Brief Job Overview/Summary
Under direction of a supervisory official at a State College, develops and implements fire and safety programs, conducts inspections of grounds and buildings occupied by students and college staff, corrects fire and safety hazards; does other related duties.

Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
• Develops and implements fire and safety programs for a college campus. • Conducts inspections of grounds and buildings occupied or utilized by students and staff to identify fire and safety hazards, including but not limited to electrical devices, outlets, obstruction of emergency exits, lighting, and other potentially hazardous conditions. • Takes measures to, or provides recommendations for correction of fire and safety hazards. • Maintains inventory of fire safety and related equipment. • Interprets and applies fire regulations. • Identifies and implements changes in the safety and accident prevention program. • Inspects fire extinguishers for accessibility and that they are up-to-code with date. • Conducts and supervises the conduct of fire drills; observes and evaluates evacuation results. • Cooperates with local fire departments to investigate the cause of fires. • May provide training in safety procedures. • Provides advice and guidance on fire and safety issues. • Keeps current with fire safety regulations. • Develops and presents seminars and talks on safety for students and staff. • Provides instruction in the use of fire extinguishers and other safety equipment. • Responds to fire alarms, oversees building evacuation, and determines whether an actual emergency exists. • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with those interested or involved with the work of the program. • Prepares reports of fire safety and inspection activities. • Establishes and maintains essential records and files. • Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the methods used to conduct inspections. • Knowledge of the techniques used to develop and implement fire and • safety programs. • Knowledge of the factors likely to cause hazardous conditions. • Knowledge of fire prevention and safety techniques. • Ability to develop and implement fire and safety programs. • Ability to conduct inspections to identify fire and safety hazards. • Ability to correct fire and safety hazards. • Ability to conduct and supervise the conduct of fire drills. • Ability to establish and maintain essential records and files. • Ability to prepare reports. • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those interested or involved in the work of the program. • Ability to interpret laws, rules and regulations and apply them to • specific situations. • Ability to learn to utilize various types of manual or electronic recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units. • Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. • American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of • communication. • Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long as they can perform the essential functions of the job after reasonable accommodation is made to their known limitations. • If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the employer undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.

Required Qualifications:
• One (1) year of experience in the implementation of fire prevention and safety programs, including the inspection, identification and correction of fire and safety hazards.

Preferred Qualifications:
LICENSE: • Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
