About the Department:

The purpose of Information Technology Services (ITS) is to transparently drive excellence in teaching, research, and administrative operations by providing superior technology and collaborative solutions that inspire life-changing learning and success for our students and the entire George Mason community.

ITS Communications and Marketing is responsible for the communications program of Information Technology Services in order to improve relationships with ITS customers by providing timely information about ITS Services. The communications program includes external and internal communications efforts, as well as documentation of ITS strategic business operations.

About the Position:

The Digital Marketing Coordinator plays a crucial role in conceptualizing, developing, and implementing social media campaigns to support the mission and vision of Information Technology Services. This position promotes ITS services to both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the Digital Marketing Coordinator provides graphic design support for ITS projects and initiatives, ensuring alignment with the broader George Mason brand. The role involves gathering details, utilizing interview skills, and writing engaging content to share key information about ITS and its activities. Creative approaches in graphic design, multimedia, social media, web design, and other media are used to achieve the strategic goals and objectives of ITS and the Mason community. This position reports to the Manager of Communications & Marketing.

Responsibilities:

Social Media Strategy & Content Management:

  • Serve as administrator and content strategist for ITS social media accounts;
  • Conceptualize and produce high-quality, engaging content (text, video, photography, graphics) to drive brand awareness and engagement on social media;
  • Lead the team in exploring and adopting new social media platforms and emerging trends;
  • Collaborate with other ITS teams to manage reputation, identify key players, and coordinate actions;
  • Work with team members to assist with content creation for ITS projects, initiatives, and communications campaigns;
  • Develop and manage a content calendar to ensure consistent and timely posting across platforms;
  • Utilize enterprise social media management tools to streamline processes and improve efficiency;
  • Participate in brainstorms and content ideation;
  • Monitor and analyze key metrics, adjusting strategies as needed; and
  • Engage with users by monitoring, listening, and responding to build stronger connections.

Graphic Design:

  • Design visually appealing marketing materials, including print advertisements, banners, digital graphics, and social media content;
  • Collaborate with the team to develop and execute creative concepts that adhere to brand guidelines;
  • Provide design support for communications campaigns related to ITS projects;
  • Revise designs based on feedback, ensuring final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand; and
  • Address ad hoc design needs of the organization.

Written and Oral Communication:

  • Develop and edit written content for various platforms, including websites, social media, and marketing materials;
  • Ensure clarity and consistency in all communications, adapting style to suit different audiences;
  • Facilitate effective communication within the team and with external stakeholders;
  • Understand and enforce compliance of ITS and the George Mason brand; and
  • Communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences.

Administrative and Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Coordinate a team, or function in a team, and operate in a collaborative spirit of mutual respect to achieve goals and objectives;
  • Support and/or own event logistics;
  • Execute other duties as assigned by supervisor and leadership; and
  • Serve as member of ITS or Mason committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in social media, graphic design, communications, or writing (ideally 2+ years);
  • Experience in creating compelling, engaging content and executing successful social media campaigns;
  • Experience in managing social media channels;
  • Prior experience with social media, including a deep understanding of various platforms and audiences, and knowledge of best practices;
  • Ability to use analytics to measure and evaluate the success of social media campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly;
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and major social media platforms;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and confident communication abilities, capable of effectively interacting with a diverse range of individuals and groups;
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, proofreading, and editing;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines; and
  • Keen attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with content management tools and email marketing platforms;
  • Digital video and photography and editing experience a plus;
  • Demonstrated high degree of independence and initiative;
  • Ability to work autonomously, collaboratively on a team, and step up as a leader; and
  • High level of creativity and latitude.
