About the Department:
The Department of Biology includes 14 tenured and tenure-track and 14 term faculty focused on undergraduate and graduate education. It maintains research facilities including a 1700 sq. ft. climate-controlled greenhouse and an active 80,000 specimen herbarium. The Department has over 1500 undergraduate majors and employs more than 50 Graduate Teaching Assistants as well as adjunct faculty. Faculty from the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, the School of Systems Biology, the School of Integrative Studies, and the STEM Accelerator Program also contribute to the Biology Department through courses and research collaborations. Mason’s enrollment is approximately 38,255 with students studying in over 210 degree programs (127 graduate degree programs) from bachelors to doctoral, as well as Law. About the Position:
The position provides technical and logistical support to one of the scientific laboratories that performs scientific research in the field of virology. The position provides hands-on support for ongoing research projects including experimental design and execution, and training of personnel. The position works closely with the laboratory lead investigator to ensure timely progression of research activities and compliance with university and federal regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Designs and performs lab experiments according to the grant specification outlined in the statement of work in assigned discipline;
- Assists the PI with communication with collaborators;
- Records and analyzes laboratory data from experiments;
- Orders materials and reagents for the grant and safety compliance;
- Prepares reports for the sponsor and develops manuscripts along with the PI; and
- Assists the PI with managing the grant-related experimental data.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or or the equivalent combination of education and significant experience;
- Experience working with undergraduate and graduate students in higher education;
- Ability to operate independently and as a team player;
- Ability to multitask;
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds;
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills;
- Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communications skills; and
- Highly developed organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or appropriate level of work experience;
- Experience in cloning;
- Experience in assay design and development;
- Experience in composition of manuscripts and grant proposals; and
- Knowledge of multi-omic (proteomic and/or transcriptomic) processes.
