About the Department:

University Career Services (UCS), a unit within the Division of University Life (UL), is the centralized career center for George Mason University (Mason), serving 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students. We prepare and connect career-ready students for post-graduate success. UCS is dedicated to helping students identify and pursue opportunities where they can make a positive impact in a complex and quickly evolving world. In partnership with our strong network of employers, alumni, and faculty we are able to breakdown barriers and successfully connect students with meaningful opportunities in their industries of interest to help them reach their full potential and advance not only themselves socio-economically, but their families too. Existing services and programs include one-on-one appointments, career exploration, industry specific programs, career fairs, experiential learning opportunities and graduate school preparation.

About the Position:

The Employer Engagement Coordinator provides excellent frontline customer service to employers interested in recruiting at George Mason University, setting the stage for long-term relationships. Enforces employer recruiting and student conduct policies to promote ethical practices. Manages and coordinates Signature Recruiting Events including, but not limited to, the On-Campus Interview Program, and Resume Clinic, which involves aspects of scheduling, room reservations, ordering supplies, marketing/outreach, event registration, check-in/out procedures and evaluation. Oversees the scheduling of and logistics for all employer generated events on-campus. Maintains full responsibility for managing, approving, and assigning new employer accounts and job/internship positions in the Handshake database. Assumes managerial responsibility of and strategic vision for the involvement of student worker(s) assigned to the Employer Relations Team. Proactively seeks new and innovative methods for providing enhanced services to our employer partners and on-campus recruiters. Serves on cross-functional center teams, assisting with strategic planning initiatives, and maintaining key liaison relationships with University constituents.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with supervisor to create, revise and enforce recruiting and Handshake policies, and ensures timely approvals of all positions, employer events, and employer registrations in the database;
  • Serves as the office expert for Handshake and additional platforms, maintaining and gaining knowledge through ongoing trainings, webinars, and conferences;
  • Promotes the use of Handshake to all relevant stakeholders on the Mason campus;
  • Serves as the first point of contact for employer requests and questions via email and phone;
  • Actively communicates concerns or requests for additional information to employers on a consistent basis;
  • Works collaboratively with Employer Engagement Consultants to handle employers of concern, student violations, and efforts to build/maintain strong employer relationships;
  • Promotes positive employer relationships and assists employers in setting up high-quality internships and full-time experiences for students while maintaining contact with employers by phone or email;
  • Hosts and/or visits local businesses, government, and organizations to develop opportunities in consultation with members of the Employer and Alumni Engagement team; 
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of recruiting and market trends to share regularly with all center staff members while generating data-driven reports highlighting trends across industries;
  • Collaborates with members of the career center staff to create, customize, and execute employer/alumni/student networking events and educational panels, including the Resume Clinic;
  • Oversees administrative details for the Employer and Alumni Engagement team, including processing room reservations, ensuring consistent and accurate framing of events across multiple platforms, and sharing event logistics with employers visiting campus.;
  • Collaborates with supervisor to consider the needs of academic stakeholders and provides industry-specific programming that meets the interests of Mason students and employers;
  • Provides relevant outreach presentations as requested by campus partners and stakeholders;
  • Manages all aspects of the On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) Program, including virtual aspects, in the Handshake career management system. Ensures that the OCI program is ready for each recruiting cycle by ensuring all web and email content is accurate and up-to-date;
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director, Trends and Assessment and Associate Director, Employer and Alumni Engagement to create, collect, analyze, and present program data. Uses trends and assessment data to conceptualize, propose, and initiate new and innovative solutions to best engage with employers, manage events, and reach departmental goals;
  • Oversees UCS staff members’ use of the Interview module for use in non-OCI events (i.e. Hour Offices) and shares best practices and utilization expectations while promoting the availability of OCI rooms for student interview reservations and administers the program;
  • Provides supervision of Employer Relations Student Assistants (ERSAs) who will assist in providing quality customer service to employers (e.g., approving new employer registrations, job/internship postings in Handshake);
  • Provides direction, guidance, and support in setting performance goals, reaching goals, and engaging in self-appraisal;
  • Provides ongoing feedback and conducts formal evaluations;
  • Assists with coverage of front desk duties as needed;
  • Supports staffing needs for large-scale events (e.g. career fairs, orientation), both in person and virtually;
  • Contributes to UCS strategic plan development and implementation;
  • Serves on division/university committees to represent UCS; and
  • Serves as a liaison to university departments. 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated customer service experience typically obtained in 2+ years in an office setting;
  • Demonstrated experience in CRM system and/or data entry;
  • Basic event planning experience;
  • Advanced customer service skills;
  • Skilled in written and verbal communication; and
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field;
  • Demonstrated experience enforcing policies and procedures;
  • Demonstrated event planning experience typically obtained in 2 years
  • Demonstrated attention to detail;
  • Ability to use proper etiquette for phone and email communications; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to DEI and ability to work effectively in diverse groups.
