About the Department:

Film and Video Studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at George Mason University offers courses leading to a BA in Film and Video with optional pathways in directing, producing, cinematography, editing, sound, and screenwriting. Film and Video Studies is a community of cinematic storytellers that fosters creativity, analysis, and diverse perspectives, professional practice, and socially conscious filmmaking.

About the Position:

The Term Assistant Professor of Digital Production and Post-Production is a one-year full-time (non-tenure track) faculty position with potential for renewal, starting in August 2025.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches 4 courses each semester, including:
    • Undergraduate courses in general and intermediate level production;
    • Sound recording, editing, and mixing;
    • Cinematography;
    • Basic and advanced editing;
    • Color grading and correction;
    • Graphics and motion graphics; and
    • Screenwriting. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • M.F.A. in film, media arts, or related field. Bachelor’s degree or higher in film, media arts, or related field considered with professional experience equivalent to the terminal degree;
  • Substantive freelance experience in the film industry and/or professional experience in production and post-production; and
  • Demonstrated experience teaching at the undergraduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Maintenance of robust professional connections with film industry professionals;
  • Experience working with diverse students/professional crew and cultivating inclusion and belonging in scholastic, institutional, and/or industry environments; and
  • Experience in fiction, documentary, experimental, and/or industrial film development, pre-production, production, post-production, marketing and distribution.
