The Office of Marketing and Communications within University Life supports the division's efforts to engage all of the Mason community.

About the Position:
The University Life Office of Marketing and Communications is seeking skilled and versatile writers to join the team. A successful candidate will have excellent writing, interviewing, and grammatical skills, with the ability to produce a wide range of content, including press releases, feature stories, persuasive articles, and both long and short features for magazines and other print/digital publications. This is a part-time, hourly wage position with flexible scheduling, based on availability, bandwidth, and available projects.

Responsibilities:
Content Creation
- Develop and write engaging content for various platforms, including but not limited to:
- Press releases;
- Feature stories;
- Persuasive articles;
- Letters from the Vice President;
- Long and short stories for magazines; and
- Other marketing materials as needed.
Interviews
- Conduct interviews with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders to gather information for content creation as needed.
Editing and Proofreading
- Ensure all content is well-researched, grammatically correct, and free of errors.
Project Management
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
Communication
Communication with supervisors, marketing team and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and provide updates on progress.
Flexibility
- Be prepared to work on projects throughout the year, with varying levels of workload. Some periods may have minimal work, while others may require more extensive involvement.

Required Qualifications:
- Prior writing experience, preferably in a freelance or marketing context;
- Effective writing and editing skills;
- Demonstrated research abilities;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Effective communication and time management skills;
- Proficiency in mainstream word processing software; and
- A portfolio of writing samples demonstrating versatility and quality.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior writing experience with pieces featured in high-level, national publications.
