About the Department:

In collaboration with the George Mason University community, and as a part of the Office of the Provost, the Division for Enrollment Management optimizes student recruitment and retention by developing and implementing strategic enrollment plans, overseeing the admissions process, providing financial aid services, and managing the Mason Student Services Center—a centralized student services resource. The Division’s activities support the achievement of institutional enrollment goals by placing the student (and family) at the center of our work, supporting a culture of transparency, and leveraging data to inform decision-making.

The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollment of freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students in alignment with the university's strategic plan, ensuring a diverse and successful student body that contributes to the institution's excellence and global impact.

About the Position:

The Transfer Credit Coordinator evaluates and processes transfer credit to incoming George Mason students. Builds and maintains relationships with current and prospective students, helping them navigate the transfer credit process. Ensures excellent customer service and drives enrollment among a diverse student population.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs transfer credit evaluations and awards credit for new transfer admits and deposited freshman students, for all transfer credit types, according to established evaluation practices and university policy;
  • Utilizes all available resources (including catalog course descriptions and course syllabi) to determine timely and accurate transfer course equivalencies with emphasis upon the creation of specific course-to course matches and fewer electives to build the equivalency database that improves equitable transfer credit awards;
  • Collaborates with team members and supervisor in determining questionable transfer credit;
  • Works with faculty and staff to resolve transfer credit appeals and updates Banner equivalency table to ensure transfer credit accuracy and equity;
  • Responsible for on-going additions and maintenance of transfer credit equivalencies in Banner and course evaluations in the Transfer Evaluation System (TES) to allow equivalencies to be viewed on a public platform;
  • Works with academic departments to review new and existing course equivalencies to ensure accurate and timely evaluations;
  • Counsels current and prospective students on transfer credit policy, including domestic and international, and freshman and traditional transfer students;
  • Provides effective customer service in communicating with new and prospective freshmen and transfer students on university transfer credit evaluation policy;
  • Documents counseling communications in Banner and/or Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software;
  • Collaborates with other Mason offices to assist students in having a positive and successful transition to the university;
  • Actively participates in Admissions events, as needed; and
  • Completes assigned tasks in a timely fashion to ensure data accuracy or other articulated goal (i.e., run daily workflow reports, missing checklist items, application errors).

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Previous experience working in an office setting;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills;
  • Skill in effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and respectfully with a diverse population;
  • Ability to perform work with substantial attention to detail;
  • Prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment, often working on multiple tasks concurrently;
  • Proficient in the use of related technology with willingness and ability to learn new systems;
  • Ability to research data to make decisions; and
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility to learn and apply constantly changing equivalencies and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with undergraduates in a counseling environment;
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner software, Salesforce CRM, Stellic, and/or TES (Transfer Evaluation System);
  • Previous experience working in higher education; and
  • Bilingual.
