About the Department:

The Mason and Partners (MAP) Clinics are nurse-led interprofessional health centers operated by George Mason University. The MAP clinics serve uninsured and medically underserved populations in Prince William and Fairfax Counties. These clinics deliver non-emergency health care, mental health support, case management, chronic disease education, and social services referrals, while providing essential clinical training for nursing and interprofessional students.

About the Position:

The RN Clinical Specialist provides both direct patient care and clinical oversight at the MAP Manassas site, while supporting additional sites as needed. The RN Clinical Specialist serves as lead nurse and coordinates grant-funded initiatives including integration of nursing students into community-based practice experiences. Responsibilities include overseeing daily clinic nursing operations, implementing grant objectives, precepting BSN students, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality, interdisciplinary health care services.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Leadership and Care Coordination

  • Leads nursing care at MAP Manassas site;
  • Manages clinical operations; and 
  • Coordinates with MAP team on care delivery at other MAP sites.

Student Education and Supervision

  • Supports integration and supervision of BSN nursing students in clinical settings, including:
    • Scheduling;
    • Mentorship; and
    • Collaborates with clinical faculty on student evaluation.

Program Implementation

  • Coordinates student-related activities and reporting; and
  • Ensures implementation of student project plans in collaboration with faculty.

Interprofessional Collaboration

  • Works with internal and external partners to support interprofessional education, care integration, and service expansion.

Administrative Support and Reporting

  • Documents clinical activity;
  • Supports quality improvement initiatives;
  • Contributes to data tracking and reporting efforts; and
  • Completes additional assignments as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in related field;
  • Nursing experience (typically two years);
  • Knowledge of:
    • Nursing practices and public health principles; and
    • Interdisciplinary collaboration models;
  • Skills in:
    • Patient care planning and execution; and
    • Documentation and reporting for grant compliance.
  • Ability to:
    • Mentor and supervisor student learners; and
    • Lead clinical care delivery in a multi-site setting.
  • Must have a valid RN license, flexibility for travel to multiple MAP sites;
  • Current, unencumbered Virginia RN License; and
  • Basic Life Support (CPR) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • Leadership and care coordination for complex patients preferred;
  • Experience in nurse-led clinic operations;
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health in underserved populations; and
  • Ability to manage telehealth services.
