Position Summary

The Laboratory & Simulation Coordinator (LSC) is responsible for the coordination and efficient operations of the School of Health Sciences labs and Simulation Center. This includes but not limited to monitoring lab accounts and grants, purchasing supplies and equipment for labs and Simulation Center, maintaining records for purchasing, maintaining medical supplies and equipment inventories, maintenance and repair of equipment and ensuring clean, safe, and functioning labs. Responsibilities also include resource management, standard operational procedures, and preparation for accreditation reports and site visits. The LSC coordinates and maintains the health sciences laboratory and Simulation Centers schedules which includes responsibility for the School’s Standardized Patient program, and works collaboratively with the Laboratory Services Technicians, Simulation Technicians and Manager of Laboratory and Simulation Education. Researches, develops, updates, collaborates, and refines lab content for health science programs based on student and faculty needs and reflective of current practice standards. Serves as the first point of contact in the absence of the Manager of Laboratory and Simulation Education (MLSE).

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the College, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package .

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Coordination and Operations – In collaboration with the MLSE, ADs, ACs, CCs and Con Ed develop the lab/sim schedules and supply/equipment requests for each semester. Work with program leadership when requests are not turned in on time. Work with the MLSE to develop and implement strategies to accommodate changes in the lab schedule throughout the semester. Communicate effectively with lab instructors to ensure their lab needs are met. Ensure all lab schedules are entered into 25Live or other designated room scheduling systems. Ensure all lab supplies are in stock, and all equipment is in working order. Research replacement purchases when items are backordered. Ensure the preventative maintenance of equipment. Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the lab and Simulation Center. In consultation with the MLSE, ensure the department has the human resources to support labs; to include but not limited to, hours of operations and staff coverage, and develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of lab and simulation spaces and supplies. Provide coverage of lab duties during times of high demand or absence of lab and/or simulation technicians. Serves as the first point of contact in the absence of the Manager of Laboratory and Simulation Education (MLSE).

nstructional Integration - Coordinate the integration of instructional simulation throughout SHS programs, to include, but not limited to mentoring faculty and staff in the design of simulation curriculum, ensuring instruction is consistent with national professional standards for clinical practice and providing training on the operation of simulation equipment. Designs, implements, evaluates, and standardizes educational programs for faculty/staff development in the use of clinical simulation, debriefing, and assessment. Coordinates and maintains the contracts and schedules of standardized patients and provides training for utilization in the laboratories and Simulation Center. Coordinates the hiring of new standardized patients.

Purchasing and Budget Coordination – In consultation with the MLSE, Dean, ADs, and Directors, monitor SHS lab accounts & grant funds. Ensure there are adequate funds to purchase all supplies and equipment for the School of Health Sciences Labs & the Simulation Center. Order & receive items via P-card and Unimarket system, including: obtaining quotes, initiating vendor registration, obtaining RFQs, initiating PSRs, completing monthly account reconciliation in accordance with state & college guidelines. Maintains records of requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, & P-card expenditures and manages product returns, exchanges, & recalls. Provide data analysis to support lab fee increases and/or decreases.

Supply and Equipment Oversight and Vendor Coordination - Contact equipment/manikin vendors for routine and urgent repairs. Establish collaborative relationships with vendors and external organizations to provide the best learning outcomes for students. Notify programs/departments when items are out of stock, backordered and/or when equipment is not functioning. Responsible for maintaining inventory of existing medical equipment and medical supplies, maintain library of existing warranties, product manuals, and other relevant materials. Assess medical equipment and supply inventory on a yearly basis and make recommendations for disposal of outdated or dysfunctional items, as necessary. Determine if equipment needs to be disposed of or if it can be donated. Ensure all proper protocols are followed for disposing of or donating equipment.

Accreditation and Event Coordination - Provide assistance with Health Sciences program accreditation reports and visits; provide tours of the School of Health Sciences labs and Simulation Center. Collaborate with School of Health Sciences staff to coordinate lab and Simulation Center use for open houses and other public events. Collaborates with leadership and course faculty in planning, designing, organizing, and delivering lab and simulation activities. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

-Associate's degree or higher
-Minimum of two years of relevant experience
-In lieu of an Associate’s degree the candidate should have over 5 years of relevant experience.
-Demonstrated knowledge of budget management and equipment/supply procurement.
-Demonstrated knowledge of the equipment, supplies and software used in health care educational labs and simulation.
-Demonstrated knowledge of health care simulation instruction.
-Ability to handle confidential information, be adaptable to various competing demands, demonstrate customer centric service and ability to handle conflict when necessary.
-Ability to work collaborative with various departments and or external constituents.
-Ability to build relationships.
-Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
-Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive environment, the ability to deal tactfully with all internal and external constituents and the ability to work collegiately with a culturally diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Ability to lift, bend, stoop and stand/walk for extended periods of time.

Preferred Qualifications:

-Understanding of health care educational requirements.
-Completion of or agree to complete Certification in Simulation Education (CHSE or -CHSOS.)
-Previous health care experience (ex., RN, LPN, Paramedic)
-Previous experience working for a health sciences higher education institution.
