Job Summary/Basic Function:

Position Summary
The Student Experience Assistant is a high-impact summer leadership role designed to support the transformation and rebranding of student life at Lake Superior State University. This position is open exclusively to students currently serving in an executive role within one of LSSU’s Big 6 recognized student organizations.

As LSSU transitions from Campus Life to Student Life, this position will help shape that future. Working closely with professional staff, the Student Experience Assistant will co-create inclusive and sustainable systems for student governance and organization engagement.

Key projects include rewriting the Student Constitution, launching a new Student Government Association (SGA), and developing a comprehensive Student Organization Handbook outlining policies, expectations, and resources for student-led groups. The student will also support the branding and structure of the new Student Life identity, helping define its values, voice, and student-centered direction.

This role is ideal for a driven student leader ready to leave a lasting legacy by reimagining student involvement and leadership at LSSU.

Key Responsibilities

Support the rebranding of Campus Life to Student Life by shaping goals, messaging, and structure

Lead efforts to revise the Student Constitution with a focus on inclusion and accountability

Collaborate with staff to design and implement a new SGA, including its governing documents

Draft a Student Organization Handbook to guide recognition, operations, and access to resources

Benchmark practices from peer institutions and gather student input to inform decisions

Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the Student Life team to provide updates

Develop launch materials and recommendations for successful rollout of new systems

Serve as a student ambassador and advocate for engagement, belonging, and campus culture


Minimum Qualifications:

Support the rebranding of Campus Life into Student Life by shaping language, goals, and structure
Lead efforts to revise the Student Constitution to better reflect student needs, inclusion, and accountability
Collaborate with staff to design and implement a new Student Government Association (SGA), including its governing documents
Draft a Student Organization Handbook to guide recognition, operations, expectations, and access to resources
Benchmark practices from peer institutions and gather student input to inform decisions
Participate in bi-weekly meetings with the Student Life team and provide updates on key initiatives
Create launch materials and recommendations to ensure a smooth rollout of new systems and policies
Serve as a student ambassador and advocate for engagement, belonging, and campus community

Preferred Qualifications:

Must currently serve in an executive position within one of LSSU’s Big 6 student organizations
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Passion for student involvement, shared governance, and creating positive change
Ability to work independently and manage long-term projects with deadlines
Prior experience in student government, policy writing, or organizational leadership is preferred
