Athletic Trainer - Men's Ice Hockey Michigan
Under healthcare direction of the Medical Director/Head Team Physician and administrative direction of the Director of Athletics at Lake Superior State University, the Licensed Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare for our varsity athletic programs. The Athletic Trainer will be involved in both the clinical and healthcare administration areas related to patient care. The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for all athletic training duties for Men’s Division I Ice Hockey and additional assigned student-athletes.
CFRE Research Technician Michigan
Under administrative direction of the Director of the Center for Freshwater Research and Education (CFRE) and reporting to the Assistant Director of Research, the Research Technician assists CFRE scientists on field and lab research activities related to CFRE’s mission. Research activities will be primarily focused on lab analyses related to projects in the Great Lakes basin that address fisheries management and ecology, river and wetland bioassessment, and water quality. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Research Technician’s role will include, but not be limited to: • Lead field and lab research projects as directed • Provide daily oversight of student researchers at CFRE and those conducting lab research • Process lab data, including eDNA analyses • Conduct standard laboratory water analyses using discrete analyzers, LC-MS/MS, ion chromatographs, and spectrophotometers • Oversee purchasing and installation of new analytical equipment • Conduct data entry and QC • Analyze data using statistical software and generate reports of results • Maintain sample archives • Maintain and repair equipment • Oversee external sample workflow and invoicing • Assist with purchasing of research supplies • Write grants and/or acquire contracts to help sustain the position at CFRE • Present at scientific conferences and attend professional development opportunities as available • Assist CFRE staff and community partners with organizing and conducting outreach events (e.g., St. Marys River Day) as needed • Assist with other lab or field tasks or processes as needed • Assist with research report preparation and publications • Assist with tracking and reporting on research activities and accomplishments annually • Assist with other lab duties as assigned
Post-doctoral Research in Great Lakes Fish Ecology Michigan
Lake Superior State University’s Center for Freshwater Research and Education (LSSU CFRE) seeks a Post-doctoral Research Associate to lead a research project evaluating early life stage fish habitat and use in the Straits of Mackinac. The successful candidate will help support field surveys focused on identifying spawning and nursery habitats, characterizing environmental conditions and trophic-level resources, and contributing to improved ecological management of this critical Great Lakes connecting water. The position is a multi-agency collaboration and will work closely with scientists from the USGS and USFWS. The position is funded for 1 year with the potential for renewal. The successful candidate will be housed at LSSU’s Barch Center for Freshwater Research and Education (https://www.lssu.edu/cfre/) in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan, located at the nexus of the upper Great Lakes on the beautiful St. Marys River. In collaboration with the project team, the Post-doctoral Research Associate will: • Lead field-based surveys to inventory fish spawning and nursery habitats in the Straits of Mackinac • Manage and analyze complex datasets, including egg and larval fish data, zooplankton and benthic invertebrate surveys, and habitat assessments • Lead authorship of peer-reviewed publications on project findings • Collaborate with federal, state, tribal, and academic partners to translate findings into management strategies • Contribute to proposals for future research initiatives • Provide mentorship to LSSU undergraduate students involved in the project
