Position Summary

The Assistant Athletic Director for Strategic Communications is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications efforts for the Department of Athletics. This position oversees all aspects of athletic media relations, ensuring consistent and effective messaging across traditional and digital platforms. The role works closely and collaboratively with the Assistant AD for Creative Services to align branding, storytelling, and content production in support of the department’s external initiatives and the overall mission of the university.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required. 3-4 years of related communications and/or media services experience is required.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree preferred.

Job Duties

  • 50% - Manage and develop strategic communication efforts for the Department of Athletics. Serve as the primary media contact for men’s basketball and other assigned varsity sports, including game-day coverage, press releases, statistics, and historical record maintenance. Coordinate press conferences, media days, and post-game interviews. - (Essential)
  • 25% - Supervise and manage the athletic communications staff and student assistants. Develop and execute a comprehensive communications plan that enhances the visibility and reputation of the department’s teams, student-athletes, and coaches. Manage and maintain the official athletics website and all sport-specific content. Oversee production of game notes, media guides, postseason publications, and promotional materials. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Collaborate with the Assistant AD for Creative Services on video, photo, and social media content strategies to ensure cohesive storytelling and brand alignment. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Monitor and analyze media coverage and engagement metrics to assess the impact of communication strategies. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Complies with all University and CAA regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University and CAA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited. - (Essential)
