Position Summary

Health Promotion provides quality educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The Assistant Director for Peer Health Education is an essential member of the Health Promotion team, working alongside the Director of Health Promotion to supervise the student peer educator team and support health education and promotion efforts. This is a grant funded position through June 2026.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required

Preferred Education and Experience

1-2 years of post-bachelor's professional experience in a higher education setting working with peer-to-peer initiatives. Master's degree preferred.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate Peer Health Education Program 
    • Assist in the development and delivery of peer health education training, using the NASPA CPE (Certified Peer Educator) model 
    • Supervise the peer health educators, which includes weekly team leader, full staff, and focus group meetings, as well as the coordination of programs and health promotion efforts 
    • Schedule, plan, and deliver health promotion programming 
    • Provide supervision to student interns and graduate students assisting with prevention education 
    • Facilitate training and develop evidence-based programming for SPARKS peer health educators 
  • Project Implementation and Management 
    • Assist with the development and implementation of in-person and web-based recovery ally training programs, providing ongoing education and support for faculty, staff, and students 
    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, community partners, and neighboring CRPs to develop and implement recovery initiatives grounded in standards of practice 
    • Facilitate individual and group brief motivational interventions including but not limited to the Alcohol Discussion Workshop (ADW) and Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program 
    • Train and assist Peer Health Educators with the coordination and implementation of evidence-informed substance use prevention and harm reduction programs, including Social Event Manager (SEM) training for student organization 
  • Project Assessment and Evaluation 
    • Develop survey tools and conduct needs assessments and program evaluation of peer health education programs to demonstrate improved outcomes 
    • Generate and submit grant proposals to secure continuous funding and support of prevention and recovery initiatives 
    • Support grant report completion by providing qualitative and quantitative data from programs and services 
    • Generate documentation to monitor student progress and track student participation in all health-related programs and events 
  • Department of Health Promotion Administration 
    • Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision making 
    • Assist in general health and wellness promotion efforts, including HealthEU, Timely Care, health communications efforts and other department and university initiatives to support student wellness and well-being 
    • Actively participate in Student Life, Health Promotion, and Peer Health Education meetings 
    • Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive environment in all programs and facilities 
    • Foster collaborative campus and community relationships to promote Health Promotion and the campus-wide HealthEU well-being initiative
