Position Summary
The Aquatics Coordinator provides instrumental leadership in supporting a comprehensive, integrated approach to wellness and well-being through aquatic programs and services. The Aquatics Coordinator oversees the management, safety, programming, and operations of the Slattery Center Aquatics Center and the Mill Point Residential Neighborhood pool, ensuring safe, inclusive, and engaging experiences for the campus community. This position oversees daily aquatics operations, recruits and supervises staff, ensures compliance with health and safety standards, and develops aquatic programs that serve students, faculty, staff, families, and community members. The coordinator maintains a welcoming and inclusive environment aligned with the mission of the Slattery Center and Elon University’s commitment to holistic well-being.
Opening in Fall 2026, the Slattery Center will support campus well-being and is a cornerstone project of Elon's Boldly Elon Strategic Plan. The three-story Slattery Center will bring together classrooms and labs, student-faculty research spaces, wellness and fitness facilities, and campus services to create an integrated hub for learning, engagement, and support. The Slattery Center includes a state-of-the-art aquatics center with a 25-yard collegiate competition pool, a wet classroom, and team and individual locker rooms. The Mill Point Residential Neighborhood offers Elon University students an independent living experience that blends the comforts of apartment-style housing with convenient access to campus life. Among the neighborhood community-building spaces is an outdoor recreational pool, which is maintained by the Aquatics Coordinator and their student staff team.
Within the Division of Student Life, this position reports to the Slattery Center Operations Manager. The Division of Student Life provides premier student-centered services, programs, and experiences that integrate in- and out-of-class learning, promote holistic student development, and facilitate student engagement in a vibrant, supportive residential community.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum two years of experience supervising aquatic facilities or programs.
• Prior experience recruiting, training, and scheduling aquatics staff required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong leadership, training, and supervisory skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of aquatic safety, pool operations, and lifeguard management.
• Familiarity with OSHA, ADA, and county health regulations.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in emergencies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling software.
Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing
• Current Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer required.
• Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification preferred or ability to obtain within three months of employment.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required prior to commencing employment.
Job Duties
- Aquatics Operations, Safety, and Compliance
- Oversee daily operations of the Slattery Center Pool, ensuring safe and efficient use of facilities.
- Supervise pool maintenance, safety inspections, and equipment management.
- Maintain accurate inventory of pool supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with university, state, and local safety codes, including ADA, OSHA, and county health regulations.
- Maintain operational documentation in accordance with university and state standards.
- Staff Recruitment, Supervision, and Support
- Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate all aquatic staff.
- Foster a positive work environment that attracts, retains, and supports quality employees, contractors, and volunteers.
- Programming and Community Engagement
- Develop and implement a diverse range of aquatic programs for the campus and broader community.
- Oversee revenue-generating programs through community partnerships, particularly during periods of low campus utilization.
- University and Student Life Engagement
- Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation.
- Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns.
- Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees.
- Other related duties as assigned by the Dean of Student Health and Well-Being and the Director of HealthEU Initiatives.
