Position Summary:

The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University invites applications for the nine-month, tenure track position of Assistant Professor of Double Bass. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate applied double bass to majors and non-majors as well as studio class, bass ensemble, chamber music and other courses as assigned.  Preference given to candidates with experience teaching in one of the following areas: music theory/aural skills (first year), music education, or musicology. Experience in recruiting and program development expected.  Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to participate in the school’s assessment program and in student recruitment and retention efforts for the school and the university, advise students, and will participate in faculty meetings and other university service endeavors. Effective teaching, scholarship and service are required for promotion.

Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Double Bass Performance preferred, MM required
  • Three years of documented college level teaching experience is required, experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate students is preferred.  
  • Significant experience as a clinician, including presenting at state and national conferences is expected.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, retain and inspire students
  • Ability and interest to teach in a secondary area:  music theory, music education or musicology
