Position Summary:

The Development Director for Athletics will manage a portfolio of alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding charitable gifts for Oklahoma City University. He/She is responsible for meeting key metrics, including dollars raised and a number of meaningful personal contacts, while building and advancing strong relationships with the university for current and prospective donors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful candidate should have at least three years of progressive and direct experience in fundraising, marketing, sales or communications in a higher education environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in funraising, marketing, sales, or communications within collegiate athletics is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management database system is preferred.
  • A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects the mission and values of the university and the department. 
  • Manage and coordinate all solicitations of the athletics department.
  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit gifts that match donors’ philanthropic interests with the University's needs and the athletics department's funding priorities.
  • Facilitate a required average minimum of 15-20 OCU-oriented, substantial, personal visits per month.
  • Based on funding priorities, establish annual goals to achieve success.
  • Manage a dynamic portfolio of approximately 150 donors/prospective donors to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward.
  • Determine and manage an appropriate and effective strategy for each prospect.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers, members of the University Advancement team, coaches, the Athletics Director, and university leadership (academic and administrative) to cultivate and solicit donors for the university’s priorities.
  • Assist in developing and soliciting corporate sponsors for Oklahoma City University Athletics. This includes identification, proposal development, solicitation, and activation of sponsorships.
  • Assist with University special events and initiatives as determined by the Vice President for University Advancement.

Other duties as assigned.

  • Understanding of and experiences with the gift cycle.
  • Familiarity with the Donor Bill of Rights and is donor-centered and professional in interactions with prospects.
  • Commitment to handling confidential matters with discretion.
  • Knowledge of NAIA rules and the functions of an athletic department is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and ability to execute sponsorships and corporate relationships.
  • Ability to manage special events.
  • Strong organizational skills resulting in the ability to prioritize workload and meet short-term deadlines on a regular basis
  • Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
  • Ability to operate a computer, printer, applicable software, and multi-function office machine (copy, scan, fax)
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily indoors, but at times may be required to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or off campus, performing game operation duties for outdoor sports and performing outdoor event duties.
  • Will be exposed to frequent noise caused by spectators, telephones and office machines.
  • Frequent off-campus, state and regional travel is expected by automobile and/or airplane.
