Summary: The Department of Physics seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in experimental nuclear and hadronic physics.
Classification Summary:
The Department of Physics at New Mexico State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of assistant professor in experimental nuclear and hadronic physics.
The NMSU Department of Physics offers Bachelor's degrees in physics and engineering physics and Master's and Doctoral degrees. Current research areas in the department include nuclear/hadronic physics, solid-state/condensed-matter physics, materials science, and optics.
The experimental high-energy nuclear physics group (M. Paolone, B. Duran) pursues research on fundamental properties of the nucleon, nucleon structure, excitation, medium
modification, and short range correlation at national and international labs including the
Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility and the Paul Scherrer Institute. The theoretical
nuclear and particle physics group (M. Engelhardt, M. Sievert, R. Sufian) conducts research in
the areas of hot and cold QCD, including hadron structure, lattice QCD, jets, and gluon saturation.
Classification Standard Duties:
The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate physics and establish an externally-funded research program directly involving graduate and undergraduate students.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree, at least one year of post-doctoral research experience, and an established record of research and publications in experimental nuclear physics.

We seek a person who will grow a vigorous, externally-funded research program in strong interaction physics at a US facility and have a deep commitment to both graduate and undergraduate physics education at a minority-serving institution.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The position is anticipated to start in the Fall, 2025. Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae which includes a list of publications, and a diversity, equity, and inclusion statement with their application. Candidates must also include both a teaching philosophy statement and a research statement, which should include a brief summary of experience and a description of future plans. Candidates are also asked to provide a list of three references who are willing to provide a letter in support of the applicant if contacted by the search committee.
