Summary: We are searching for a Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist to teach and assist with directing the Didactic Program in Dietetics.
Classification Summary:
The Dietetics option in Human Nutrition & Dietetic Science (HNDS) is a Didactic Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). HNDS also offers a combined Dietetic Internship and Master's Degree program.
Classification Standard Duties:
The faculty within the HNDS Nutrition Education prepare students to work alongside RDNs and as community health workers.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Possess an earned Master's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Nutritional Science or related field. Possess current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in the United States. Must have a minimum of 2 years professional work experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and/or Didactic Program Director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Possess the ability to build rapport with, recruit, mentor, and teach both undergraduate and graduate students in the area of Human Nutrition and Dietetic Science. Evidence of working with culturally and socioeconomically diverse audiences, a high degree of problem-solving, and effective presentation skills. Demonstrate effective collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Success in this position requires excellence and expertise in the leadership and engagement of students and faculty members. The program’s assistant director responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Development of policies and procedures for effectively managing all components of the program and to ensure fair, equitable and considerate treatment of prospective and enrolled students (such as program admission, retention and completion policies).
2. Recruit, advise, mentor, evaluate, and provide academic/career counseling to undergraduate students.
3. Teach undergraduate courses in the Human Nutrition & Dietetic Science (HNDS) program.
4. Maintenance of program accreditation, including:
a. Assist with gathering and maintaining data to show compliance with ACEND accreditation standards;
b. Assist with the timely submission of fees, reports, and requests for major program changes;
c. Maintenance of the program's student records, including student advising plans
d. Maintenance of complaints about the program received from students or others, including
disposition of the complaint;
e. On-going review of program's curriculum to meet accreditation standards;
f. Communication and coordination with program faculty, preceptors and others involved with the program and its students;
g. Assist with the facilitation of processes for continuous program evaluation and improvement
h. Assist with the timely submission of required documentation supporting the graduate's eligibility for a Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam.
Foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center of Excellence in Food and Sustainable Agriculture (CESFAS).
The position is housed in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, which has the largest number of majors in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. Other programs in the Department are Clothing, Textiles, and Fashion Merchandising; Family and Child Sciences; Family and Consumer Sciences Education; and Food Science and Technology. The Dietetics option in HNDS is a Didactic Program in Dietetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). HNDS also offers a combined Dietetic Internship and Master's Degree program which currently enrolls 12 interns and is accredited by ACEND.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience working in an ACEND accredited dietetics program OR 1 year of experience directing an ACEND-accredited program (DPD or other). University teaching experience, including online course preparation preferred.
