The College Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice will teach various undergraduate and (graduate) online courses within the Department of Criminal Justice. The primary role is supporting and enhancing the existing Global Criminal Justice program, including core and elective online courses.
Classification Standard Duties:
The successful candidate will teach 4 (Spring) + 4 (Fall) online courses in the Global Criminal Justice program and participate in meetings and training as required.
- Teach a full-time load of 4 classes in the Fall and Spring semesters, totaling an 80-90% Allocation of Effort (AOE) for teaching.
- Develop, update, and maintain online course content to ensure it meets the highest academic standards and aligns with on-campus offerings.
- Conduct regular assessments and evaluations of course effectiveness and student performance to maintain the quality and rigor of the courses.
- Participate in service and outreach activities, contributing 10-20% of the AOE. Specific service and outreach duties will be discussed and assigned at the beginning of each academic year.
- Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current with the latest trends in online education, including attending workshops, webinars, and conferences.
- Provide instruction and support to global students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
- Masters degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field
- Significant experience with online teaching
- Experience in developing and teaching online courses.
- Evidence of effective teaching and commitment to student success.
- Prior involvement in professional development related to online education is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of criminal justice theories, practices, and contemporary issues.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering online education content.
- Ability to maintain high academic standards and ensure course content is up-to-date.
- Skilled in using technology and online learning management systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assess and evaluate student performance effectively.
- Commitment to continuous professional development in online education methodologies.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach and manage a 4-4 teaching load, including core and elective courses in the Global Criminal Justice program.
- Develop and continuously improve online course materials to ensure they meet high academic standards and remain current with industry trends.
- Regularly assess and evaluate the effectiveness of courses and student performance, making necessary adjustments to enhance learning outcomes.
- Participate in meetings, committees, and other service and outreach activities as assigned.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to incorporate innovative practices in online education and improve teaching effectiveness.
- Support and mentor students, providing guidance and assistance as needed to help them achieve academic success.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the continued growth and success of the Global Criminal Justice program.
