Summary:  NMSU University General Counsel invites you to apply for the position of University Policy Officer

Classification Summary:
Serves as a key facilitator in the development, review, and dissemination of institutional policies and policy revisions. Coordinates across constituencies and various policy owners to ensure appropriate stakeholders are involved in the development and revision of campus-wide policies. Serves as a subject-matter expert to University administrators and constituents regarding policy development processes and ensures policies are well-defined and accessible to the campus community. Researches policy issues and analyzes the impact of policies on organizational projects, programs, or interests.

Classification Standard Duties:
Conducts research and collects data on legislation, policy, or other issues. Analyzes findings and produces memos, briefs, reports, or other deliverables outlining the impact of policies on the organization. May assist in the development of organizational responses or positions relative to existing or proposed policies, and may develop strategies to mitigate/limit or leverage the impact of policies on the organization's operations.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field; Required Experience- Six (6) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined. Equivalency- None. Required Certifications/License-

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of institutional policies and procedures documentation applicable to a public higher education institute. Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, guidelines, and standards in area of expertise. SKILL: Skill in effectively analyzing, evaluating, summarizing and presenting information objectively. Records maintenance skills. ABILITY: Ability to interpret and communicate policies, regulations, and procedures to students, faculty and staff. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information. Ability to evaluate and edit the content, structure, and format of a range of written material. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to develop tactical plans, and prioritize and organize projects to meet deadlines. Ability to organize and coordinate the work of committees and other types of task groups.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The role focuses on guiding the development, review, publication, and implementation of institutional policies and procedures. Responsibilities include coordinating for policy committees, gathering feedback on revisions, and serving as the main contact for the policy development process. The position requires research and analysis of policy issues, legal implications, and potential impacts on the university.
Consulting with experts, ensuring consistency among policies, and identifying areas for improvement are key tasks. This includes drafting policy documents, coordinating their approval, and communicating changes to the campus community. The role also involves maintaining a timely publication schedule, managing the policy manual, overseeing departmental operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and performing other related duties as needed.
