Classification Summary:
Responsible for one or several areas of coordinating all campus student activities, including special events, student organizations, publications, and student government activities. Reports to the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership Programs.
Classification Standard Duties:
Serve as an active member of the Student Involvement and Leadership Programs team which includes assisting with campus-wide traditions programming and serving as an active member of the Department of Student Life, the Division of Student Success, and the NMSU Community. Responsible for advising department-sponsored, recognized NMSU student organizations. Responsible for the support, planning, and implementation of events related to the advisor’s specific area and SILP as a whole.
Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.; Required Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to student affairs, counseling, or a related field.; Equivalency: Associate’s degree plus five (5) years of related work experience.; Required Certification/License:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge: Student development experience working around student engagement, student success, and with students from many backgrounds. Understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job. Understanding of the University's mission, vision and goals. Skills: Skills in short- and long-term planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; interpersonal and organizational communication, both oral and written. Experience advising programs and organizations, managing the complexities of program development and visibility, budgeting, and assessment. Abilities: Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as the secondary advisor to ASNMSU, the NMSU student government association, and serves on the ASNMSU advising team. Within the three branches of the organization, serves as the primary advisor to the legislative branch and as secondary to the others. Meets regularly with student leaders to provide guidance and encouragement, as well as to ensure applicable university, state, and federal policies are met. Develops and maintains processes to improve administrative awareness of legislative initiatives. Assists in the management of the ASNMSU budget, as well as supporting and guiding the student organization in managing their funds. Travels with students to conferences as needed. Serves as member to university, division, department, and unit committees. Other duties as assigned.

Environment: Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
